Welcome to GamerDad: Gaming with Children. My name is Andrew S. Bub - the GamerDad. I've been writing in the games industry for years now and I've devoted the last five to educating parents on gaming issues to critical acclaim. If you're looking for our GamerDad Review Archive click here. Games are fun, kids love them, and they aren't going away. So lets cut through the hype and have a real conversation about the things that matter. Video Games, Virtual Violence, and its supposed effect on children.

What They Play’s Games of ‘08
What were the best games of 2008? Well, I got the chance to contribute to the What They Play roundup because I’m a columnist. My picks? OVERALL: Left 4 Dead FAMILY: Boom Blox. But what did the other experts over there pick? Lots of stuff. Here’s the article starting with founder John Davison and then moving on to me! Click it. Come back. Or, click inside and see all the picks and talk about ‘em. I know I will!
An RPG for PSP for Lil’ Old Me
The PSP is an excellent system that I almost never have time for. Henry noticed that I have Burnout Paradise but that’s about it as far as games I’d take to a desert island. Consequently I haven’t been following the RPG scene on the little handheld. Good, bad, Japanese, what? Good thing I have a guy named MIKE ANDERSEN who works for RPGWatch and handles our own THIS WEEK IN GAMES. Please help him! Post your answers in the message board that appears after you enter the article. Good RPGs for PSPs and WHY? Bonus Points for whomever can identify the screen shot upper left. Questioner is probably between 14-18. Keep that in mind.
This Week in Games: Jan. 4 - 10

Review: Lost Cases of Sherlock Holmes (PC)
The last few years has seen a flood of adventure games based on the Sherlock Holmes stories. This makes sense since the adventure genre is rip for clue-based mysteries and Holmes is amongst the most popular ad engaging characters of the mystery field. Most of these games are typical point-and-click adventures - you move from place to place looking for clues to help solve a grand mystery. In this crowded field, Lost Cases of Sherlock Holmes does something different.
Back in Aught Nine . . .
A very happy New Year from GamerDad and Family. Henry Bub (5) wanted everyone here to know something VERY important to him. Go ahead Henry, say what you’ve got to say: “Thanks Daddy, I want to tell them that I got 1st place on Moo Moo Meadows and my dad got 2nd place!” I smiled and gave him a high five. “I beat the GamerDad! Haha!” Ooookay, lets not rub it in son. Suffice it to say Mario Kart Wii, with steering wheel attachment, is a perfect game for kids over 7. Sometimes a 5 year old can handle it, but I think it takes a special one. New Years resolutions? Well, I want 09 to be better than 08 and much better than 07. I’m looking forward to seeing what a recovered and energetic GamerDad can accomplish. I’ve accomplished so much already while being so sick in so many ways. But I’m back. Good luck to you in the New Year. Keep it at GamerDad. It’ll just get better and better. Specially for you under 15’s out there.
Ask GamerDad 12/24/09
Apologies! Ask GamerDad got lost during the Thanksgiving Holiday, then when I pointed out it hadn’t ran, boom, they runned it. Okay, so here’s the new one. A bunch of big yet short questions. Stuff about Tony Hawk, Used Games, Return Policies, GTA, oh, and why some teens are mystified why they can’t play M-rated games. Go on and read it. Come back here and post. Oh and, nifty new logo, hey?
Looking Forward in 2009
This Week in Games: Dec. 28 - Jan. 3
