Review – Link’s Crossbow Training

linkscrossbowtrainingwiiboxart_160w.jpgGamerDad.com’s very first review was The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker so I’m especially proud to make Link’s Crossbow Training the first review at the new merged GamerDad and GamingWithChildren websites. Is it worth a shot? Read on!

The game can be found seperately – but most people will find it with the Wii Blaster bundle. I hate the Wii Blaster. Hate it. It’s cumbersome, clumsy, and I do not want to pull a trigger with my left hand! That ruins everything. I recommend going Blaster-less or grabbing a 3rd party controller. I’ve seen shotguns, pistols, and I got two Nyco Pistol Controllers and they’re fantastic for this, Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and House of the Dead 2&3 Return.

Link’s game is fun, if simple. Its well made and perfect for kids because the violence level is really low but the challenge is high. I’d recommend it to anyone who doesn’t mind their kids playing with fake guns – and really, it’s just fun and fun as heck using just the Wii remote.

Lets say… 11 out of 14 bolts and appropriate for 10+ – the ESRB says Teen but that’s only because guns are controversial. You know already if you agree with that assessment.

  1. It’s fun. Basically Point Blank with a Twilight Princess setting. Still wish you could play as other characters, like Tingle, Zelda, or Agitha. But I guess it doesn’t matter. I’ve heard good things about the Nyko guns. –Cary

  2. I’m still waiting for Namco to release the Point Blank collection on the Wii.

    No. Brainer.

  3. Thanks for the review – this is something my kids have been looking at. I’ll check out the Nyko guns for them!

  4. Andrew, the solution we found to your Blaster issue is to put the Wiimote in the unit, hold it in your right hand. Don’t dock the Nunchuk – just keep it free in your left hand. It’s the best of both worlds for me.

And for anyone who’s up for an M-rated gun game, the House of the Dead combo they just released plays very nicely with this setup.

  5. No Colleen, my solution was to buy the much better designed Nyco guns. 😉
And I’m enjoying House of the Dead 2&3 – I linked top my content review here in fact. Those games are so long in the tooth and “green blooded” M-Mature seems silly to me. That’s a T-Teen in my book.

As far as the blaster goes… I tried that too Colleen but I quickly just yanked it out and used it as a phaser. It was too “non-gunny” for me to even want to use it. I mainly dislike the whole weird “shoot with the left-hand” thing.

  6. Where did you get that you had to shoot it left-handed?

I don’t use my Blaster in my left hand. It’s in my right hand. The Nunchuk is in my left. Unless I’m playing Matrix style (2 player game with me having both controllers), at which point it’s a Blaster in both hands.
