WHAT THEY LIKE, INC. ACQUIRES GAMERDAD VIDEO GAME REVIEW ARCHIVE FOR WHAT THEY PLAY

New Content Fortifies What They Play’s Substantial Offerings; Expands Internet’s Most Comprehensive Resource for Parents About Video Games

SAN FRANCISCO – May 13, 2008
– What They Like, Inc., provider to parents of unbiased information and insight about the various forms of popular entertainment that engage their children, today announced it acquired the entire review archive of GamerDad.com, a parent-oriented video game website. GamerDad’s deep archive of more than 1,000 game reviews will be re-branded and integrated into What They Play (www.whattheyplay.com), the parents guide to video games, launched November 2007 by What They Like. The addition of this new content to What They Play’s already substantive offerings further expands the most comprehensive collection of unbiased video game descriptions and features on the Internet.

“The acquisition of GamerDad’s editorial content bolsters What They Play’s already strong position as the leading information resource for parents about the video games their children play,” says Ira Becker, CEO of What They Like, Inc. “The overwhelmingly positive feedback we’ve received from parents, media, and the video game industry in our first six months validates the need for What They Play and confirms just how valued the service is that we provide.”

“I’m proud of what GamerDad has accomplished over the past five years and pleased that the editorial database we’ve built will live on and continue to benefit parents through What They Play,” says Andrew Bub, founder of GamerDad. “What They Like and GamerDad are fundamentally aligned in the belief that good parenting is informed parenting.”

  1. As long as you got more than $3.50 and a wad of used chewing gum, I think you came out ahead. 🙂

  2. I think this is a landmark moment! GamerDad (the man and the site) pioneered and pushed and persevered where others saw only failure. Now in light of the last few years – hot coffee, Oblivion, Manhunt, Bully and many others – it all seems like such a natural truth.

  3. Darn it! I forgot to ask them for that wad of gum! Curse you you WTP slicksters!

Thanks Mike, I’m doing a follow-up message now that’ll better delineate the future and past.

  4. Yeah Mike, it’s a landmark following a landmark, before another couple landmarks. 😉

First there was Ask GamerDad and the move to the blog format.
Then it was the PTA/ESRB announcement.
    Now its this.
    Next is PAX 08
and after that, I can’t talk about it yet.
