I’ve been knee deep in planting – really, I’m a landscape gardener over here at the GamerDad hideout . . . see what playing video games can do? They can make you want to raise fruit, veggies and pretty, pretty, flowers – so I totally forgot to link the latest Ask GamerDad! Most of you know you can find it at WhatTheyPlay every Friday night anyway, right? Just in case, here’s the one where I give advice to parents.

Interesting questions … the first one in particular. But to the point at hand – I definitely recommend headphones. There really isn’t any appropriate volume setting that will be loud enough for you and soft enough not to be heard. I remember trying that in my old house in the back office we had at the time – woke my son up. Since then I have come to love headphones … playing a game like Thief Deadly Shadows with headphones is wonderful …
As for language, I agree that Shadow the Hedgehog is a problem. It isn’t like hearing the word ‘damn’ once or twice would harm a child, it is that hearing it once or twice *every ten seconds* is drilling it into their heads. I’m not surprised that they started parroting it … that was a bad choice made to make the game seem more ‘edgy’.

Battalion Wars II is by far the best game i”ve played on the Wii. Its a bit cartoonish for a war game though. I often find myself laughing at what the soldiers are saying.
