This Week in Games: Dec. 14 – 20

By now the publishers are obviously assuming that you have either bought everything you have planned to buy, are out of money, or are focused on the upcoming holiday. Whatever the reason, the busy fall release season is pretty much over. Big releases this week? The Wii release of Rock Band and the XBOX360 / PS3 / PC releases of Rise of the Argonauts. Check out the rest of the list!

  • Rise of the Argonauts

  • Rise of the Argonauts

  • Rock Band 2
  • Word Jong Party
  • Summer Sports 2: Island Sports Party
  • Calvin Tucker’s Redneck Jamboree

  • Rock Band 2

  • No new releases

  • Neopets Puzzle Adventure
  • Mystery P.I.: Portrait of a Thief
  • Dreamer: Horse Trainer
  • Australia Zoo Quest
  • Dreamer: Puppy Trainer
  • Learn Math
  • Candace Kane’s Candy Factory

  • Rise of the Argonauts
  • The Tale of Despereaux

As for last week’s games, the biggest release was surprisingly the PS2 game Persona 4, which was an excellent addition to the franchise. I got to play a bit of the PSP release Dungeon Maker II: The Hidden War, which so far feels like a nice addition to the franchise – taking the core idea I already liked and putting a bit more meat on its’ bones.

Enjoy gaming!

  1. Strange. I thought I’d read that Rise of the Argonauts was pushed to sometime early 2009.

  2. Yeah, I have heard that also – but I was getting conflicted info so I left it on there.

Of course, I haven’t heard anything about my copy coming, so I am assuming it will be pushed out. But hey, there are plenty of games that have appeared more than couple of times due to these push-backs (e.g. Despereaux).

  3. After checking for Rock Band 2 for the Wii in stores, it appears that at least the software portion will not show until next week, or possibly the weekend. I *did* at least find some of the new wireless guitars for it.

Unfortunately, so far the reviews for RotA are pretty uniformly negative. It sounds like it may have been rushed to be published in time for the holidays instead of being more finished. Sigh.

  4. The sad thing is that buried this deep in the Holiday calendar means getting little attention anyway … so they might better have waited and capitalized on the after-Christmas dearth of new games. But then the financials might have demanded a ’08 release. Either way my copy is on the way soon …
