Game Review: Big League Sports (Wii)

Ever since it was released, the Wii console comes packaged with a surprisingly fun game to show off the capabilities of the Wii remote. That game is Wii Sports. Game makers have tried to imitate the fun of Wii Sports with their own motion controlled sports collections, but none have been as fun as the original. Now the ball has been passed to Big League Sports. Read on to find out if it has what it takes.

Carnival Games: Mini-Golf

One thing Wii parents – all systems really but especially Wii – need to be concerned about the sheer amount of crap littering store shelves. In pursuing a “casual” market it doesn’t quite understand yet just about every concept has been waggled and nunchuked to death. But every once in a while something special gleams in the pile and it’s even better when that game is one that your smaller kids – 5 or so – can master.

Still Left 4 Dead

My house is filled with moaning, groaning, pale creatures spewing noxious yellow bile everywhere… Oh and I’m playing Left 4 Dead a lot too. RIMSHOT See, the Bubs have the stomach flu. Maggie has been curled up with her Cooking Mama, Henry has been dominating on Mario Party 8 on the big screen, GamerMom has been working herself to a frenzy, it’s Christmastime, snowing daily, and we’re all really, really sick. Sounds like a great time to talk a bit about using videogames to help heal.

Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, & The Wardrobe

narnia.jpgThe new one is out on DVD – Prince something or other – so why not revisit my DisneyFamily.com review? Starting… NOW!  I used to turn up my nose at Professor Tolkien’s best friend’s works. CS Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia’ looked too kiddy for me. I finally did read it last year and thought to myself: “Good, but clearly better for kids that age.”

GamerFamily Holiday Guide ’08

It turns out we weren’t done. My kids and wife have never been that interested in my Holiday guides but this year they wanted in. So I took out my notebook and started scribbling. What does the GamerDad family – who can choose from many, many, many games – play?

Turkey Day Gaming

It’s only been a week (or so) since Thanksgiving? How is it that the holiday seems like a really long time ago AND like it arrived in a blip. Hmmm. We did a lot of gaming over the past 10 days or so and I’m glad to say the kids are progressing nicely. I’ll post an artice soon about their “video game training” later, but for now lets say that Maggie (8) has shown a vague interest in games since she was five, and is only getting into it now. Henry latched on at 4.5 and he’s been playing Leapster, DS, and some Wii, for weeks now. Here’s what the GamerDad Family played last week.

This Week in Games: Dec. 7 – 13

The dwindling release list continues to shrink as we get nearer to Christmas. This week we have only fourteen releases, which would have been a slow release week for the DS just a month or so ago! There are no real big releases, mostly just new versions of stuff that came out in previous weeks and a couple of hold-overs from prior weeks. So my choice is the sequel to a PSP game that I thought had a great idea if a lackluster implementation:Dungeon Maker II: The Hidden War. Check out the rest of the list! more…
