This Week in Games: Feb. 1 – 7
Very thin release schedule this week. The two biggest releases this week are the Wii game Tenchu: Shadow Assassins and the PC release of Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box. Thanks again for the replies to the ‘now playing’ lists – I love to learn about games by reading other opinions, so keep them coming! Check out the list!

As for last week … the anime-inspired Afro Samurai was the highlight of the week based solely on not being terrible … a fate that Coraline couldn’t escape. Let’s hope the movie is better. Personally, I finished the PSP game Star Ocean: Second Evolution and found it very average and too much of the same too soon after the first one. I also finished the PC version of Mirror’s Edge and liked it, and , Rise of the Argonauts and hated it.
What I’m Currently Playing:
- PC: Fallout 3: Operation Anchorage – I promised myself I wouldn’t reward Bethesda for such an average game and their constant micro-transactions, and also Microsoft for their lousy points system … yet here I am again. So far it reminds me of everything problematic about the original game.
- PC: Arcanum – I will finish it … but at a few hours a week it will take some time!
- Mac: Kivi’s Underworld – ultra-light adventure/RPG from the folks who brought us the excellent ‘Depths of Peril’. Not bad for what it is.
- PSP: Dungeons & Dragons Tactics – replaying this 2007 game. Very mixed quality, but just what I was in the mood to play this week!
Enjoy gaming!

What I’m playing…
Fallout 3: Operation Anchorage: Mike, stop reading my mind when it comes to Fallout. Though the OA add-on seems to make my game crash more than it did….
Sacred 2: Still plugging away. The world is just so freakin HUGE!
Also played some Civ4: Warlords ’cause Dylan wanted ot watch me play and a little Pokemon Pearl with him on his DS. Was a bit upset because I thought the “DS Battle Mode” of Pokemon Battle Revolution on the Wii would allow a person on the Wii to play against someone on the DS, but I was wrong. It just allows up to 4 DS players to watch the action on the “big screen” as it were. Bummer.

I’m somewhat curious about “My World, My Way” on DS. –Cary

Rich: I’ve not crashed yet … but I tend to be lucky that way! And Sacred 2 … I really like that one!
Cary: I’m intrigued with that as well though not enough to buy it.

Still mostly playing Burnout Paradise on PS3 and eagerly anticipating the Party Pack (as well as the game patches) coming in a few days. Picked up LEGO Batman (PS3) and starting in on that one with the kids. So far it’s much better than LEGO Indiana Jones and may even prove more entertaining than LEGO Star Wars.

I’ve been watching the family play Cooking Mama on DS and Wii. I haven’t been playing anything lately but I need to get back to Gears 2 and start the new Call of Duty. These are the slow months,

“I’ve been watching the family play Cooking Mama on DS and Wii.”
Despite so many ‘mainstream’ gaming types using these to exemplify what is ‘wrong’ with the Nintendo-led world, these are *really* fun games that everyone I know enjoys playing.
