This Week in Games: April 26 – May 2

stalin-vs-martiansI know that X-Men Origins: Wolverine is the big release this week … but how could I possibly resist putting the box for Stalin vs. Martians up front? X-Men Origins: Wolverine is being released for every platform known to man (I was honestly surprised there was no GBA version!), while Stalin vs. Martians is a quirky RTS game with a great sense of humor. Aside from those games, Velvet Assassin for the PC and XBOX360 has been highly anticipated and finally lands this week. There isn’t much more this week of note but that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything interesting, so check out the list!

  • X-Men Origins: Wolverine
  • Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram Ver.5.66
  • Velvet Assassin
  • Banjo-Tooie

  • X-Men Origins: Wolverine

  • X-Men Origins: Wolverine
  • Fantasy Aquarium World

  • X-Men Origins: Wolverine

  • X-Men Origins: Wolverine
  • Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce

  • X-Men Origins: Wolverine
  • Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier
  • Smiley World Island Challenge
  • Elite Forces: Unit 77

  • Stalin vs. Martians
  • X-Men Origins: Wolverine
  • Velvet Assassin
  • MLB Dugout Heroes
  • Evochron Legends
  • Eco Tycoon: Project Green
  • Lineage II: Chaotic Throne: Gracia PC
  • Reel Deal Slots: Adventure

As for last week … well, not so great once again. The biggest release – Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 – was reportedly pretty awful across all platforms, and there just wasn’t much else released. Fortunately Demigod server situation has stabilized and the game is being enjoyed quite a bit by many players.

What I’m Currently Playing:

  • PC: Demigod – haven’t even touched multiplayer yet, but so far this looks like a nice variation on the strategy game theme with some cool features.
  • PC: Neverwinter Nights 2: Mysteries of Westgate – I finally finished this and am now scrambling to have a review for RPGWatch ready for the April 29th release!
  • PC: The Last Remnant – still slowly working my way through this!
  • DS: Dark Spire – after finishing up other stuff I’ve gotten back to this fun game and am making slow progress.

Enjoy gaming!

  1. I’ve been playing some games that I couldn’t find in stores, so I had to order them online: Gardening Mama and Major Minor’s Majestic March. And this week, Banjo-Tooie is a must-download. The week after is another must-download LIVE game, but I can’t say what it is yet. –Cary

  2. A bit more Company of Heroes and Brothers in Arms (I’m also watching that documentary, The War). Some Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles and a smidge of NBA Live.

  3. We saw Gardening Mama at Best Buy when my son was looking for the $10 Ninja Gaiden DS …

  4. Cary – Why can’t you say what it is?

  5. Different publishers are funny in different ways, I’m assuming – I can talk about the fact that I am playing Mysteries of Westgate, but can’t publish the review until the release ’embargo’ ends on the 29th, for example.

  6. I don’t whats so big about about the origins game. Have people forgot that it’s a game off a movie?

  7. Most movie games are mediocre, but there are some exceptions (Chronicles of Riddick).

  8. I know this is last weeks, but I just had to comment on the Stalin vs. Martians box art. It says “Game of the Year edition” and it just came out. That’s great :D. I would look into it but 1) my computer sucks and 2) the actual gameplay in the trailer i saw wasn’t as zany as the bit with stalin dancing. I think the game would be better suited as a fps or tps with stalin as the main character fighting off aliens 80’s action hero style.

  9. i like all of the games but Xmen origines wolverine is an 18 now im 11 and i cant even have cod and velvit assasin is a 15, if its 4 kids y put it up???
