This Week in Games: May 3 – 9
While my personal pick of the week is Jagged Alliance for the DS, I simply had to put up the picture of Klonoa for the Wii in honor of Cary! The other releases include new Fallout 3 DLC called Broken Steel and a Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian game for pretty much every platform. The final release of interest is the Wii ‘New Play Controls’ re-release of the fun GameCube game Donkey Kong Jungle Beat. Check out the list!
- Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian
- Fallout 3: Broken Steel
- Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust
- Klonoa
- The Destiny of Zorro
- Fantasy Aquarium World
- New Play Control! Donkey Kong Jungle Beat
- Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian
- No New Releases
- Patapon 2
- Jagged Alliance
- Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian
- Puzzle Kingdoms
- Crysis: Maximum Edition
- Fallout 3: Broken Steel
- Sherlock Holmes Chronicles
- Plants vs. Zombies
As for last week … well, not so great once again. The biggest release – X-Men Origins: Wolverine – was pretty mediocre across all platforms, though it seemed to get a better reception than the movie! My fave – Stalin vs. Martians proved to be exactly what was advertised – a fun RTS-lite with a totally over-the-top feel. Oh, and I did manage to get Neverwinter Nights 2: Mysteries of Westgate completed and reviews and you can read about it at RPGWatch.
What I’m Currently Playing:
- PC: Demigod – loads of fun with plenty to do.
- PC: Stalin vs. Martians – this is the first casual-RTS I know of, and after playing things like Company of Heroes and Empire: Total War recently it is a refreshing break.
- Mac: Neverwinter Nights – reinstalled the original game, both expansions and all six Premium Modules and still back in Chapter One.
- PSP: Space Invaders Extreme – missed this one at release, this is a complete blast!
- DS: Legacy of Ys: Books I & II – another fun replay.
Enjoy gaming!

Didn’t the new X-men game come out this week? The demo was really fun (although extremely violent and gorey). I also can’t wait for bionic commando this month.

Now, I HATE GameStop, so you know that when I found out they were selling Wii Klonoa early, you know I must REALLY like the Klonoa game for me to go buy it at GameStop!
So lately I’ve been playing lots of Klonoa, Banjo-Tooie, and a PC game that I can’t talk about until Tuesday (embargo). –Cary

Pssh.. I have more of a reason to hate gamestop. I traded in my SNES and loads of games years ago (probably 6 years ago). I did a little research on ebay recently, and considering most games still had boxes, I was looking at 400-600 dollars ebay value. I got 40 bucks at gamestop.

I’m playing Helldorado, Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles, Wii DK Jungle Beat (<- don't buy this! just yet), and Rock Band 2. Linda is too busy but she admits to a little bit of iPhone Monkey Ball. Maggie is still all about Club Penguin. She's also discovered Nintendogs. Henry is playing Spider-Man Friend or Foe with me, Hulk Ultimate Rampage, Super Mario 3, Godzilla and a little Club Penguin. Henry has also discovered Nintendogs - thankfully I have two - and that's been fun to see. More on that later.

Hey Umm179 … that is why I use Goozex extensively … GameStop trade-ins are a poor value. That system is where they get the overwhelming majority of their profits!

I don’t know if I really agree with GameSpot on this one. The game is pretty clear on what it is – a simple silly RTS-lite for the casual gaming crew. I’ve played an hour or so and it is clearly NOT a great game, but I don’t think it is THAT bad either. I’d call it ~5/10, and say that if you can get it for ~$10 or less it might be worth a go.

Hmmm … didn’t have any slow-downs described by IGN.
Other than that, two things: just because a game is quirky and silly looking doesn’t mean it is good … nor that it is bad.
Also, remember that GameSpot / IGN / GameSpy are selling wares to the masses and need bottom-feeders to keep their aggregate score looking unbiased. Not saying the game is great, but just remember the source …

Yeah, they gave Spiderman WoS a 5.7, even though that was a really fun game.

Hey GamerDad – what are your thoughts on Helldorado? GamersGate is having a sale and I’m thinking about grabbing it …
