This Week in Games: May 17 – 23

punchout2009Do you remember when the new releases coming each week had us thinking that 2009 would never see the typical spring and summer drought? Well, that seems like ages ago, as proven with yet another thin week of mediocre releases. Big releases other than the cover image? Probably the biggest are Bionic Commando for XBOX360 and PS3, the sequel Bionic Commando for the Wii, and another movie tie-in Terminator Salvation for PC, XBOX360 and PS3. Hopefully Jagged Alliance DS actually gets released this week! Check out the list!

  • Terminator Salvation
  • UFC 2009 Undisputed
  • Rock Band Classic Rock Track Pack
  • Bionic Commando

  • No New Releases

  • Jagged Alliance
  • Steal Princess
  • Puchi Puchi Virus
  • Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s Stardust Accelerator: World Championship 2009

  • Terminator Salvation
  • Hannah Montana: The Movie

As for last week … while the cover game Sacred 2 is getting mixed reviews – with some sites loving and others hating it, the story of the week is Battlestations: Pacific is getting much more solidly average reviews. Not much else worth noting.

What I’m Currently Playing:

  • PC: Plants vs. Martians – still absorbed by this one.
  • Mac: Neverwinter Nights – the one rule is to stay on the path … but if you stay on the path you die. Very different game.
  • Mac: Neverwinter Nights – still in Chapter One … knowing things so well means feeling the need to do absolutely everything.
  • PSP: Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII – enjoying my replay once again.
  • PSP: Patapon 2 – best reason to play this game is enjoying it with my kids who missed the original.
  • DS: Magician’s Quest: Mysterious Times – cute but short RPG aimed at kids

Enjoy gaming!

  1. I’m not really excited about Bionic Commando or Punch Out, mainly because I’ve been having too much fun playing the game I’ve been looking forward to for months: Klonoa!

Other than that, I’ve been playing lots of Space Invaders Extreme and some other 20 dollar games: Raiden Fighters Aces, Touchmaster 2, and My World, My Way.

Steal Princess and Puchi Puchi Virus look interesting though. –Cary

  2. From what I’ve been seeing, I’d guess the biggest release of this week is the Wii EA Sports Active “game” — exercise software for $60 that’s supposed to do right with what wasn’t done so for WiiFit.

  3. Typo in the article. You said Bionic Commando twice. I think you meant terminator at the end of the first paragraph. I am looking foward to Bionic commando. I just hope they put a single player demo. I liked multplayer, but I saw some early gameplay vids with a barely working lighting system and it was just really distratcting. The shadows were only within 5 feet of the character. The demo seemed to mask this.

  4. Thanks for that!

Too bad Bionic Commando is getting fairly average reviews.
