Guest Review: Afrika (PS3)
Afrika is a wildlife photography game on the PlayStation 3. Featuring lush, realistic graphics and animation, Afrika has more than 70 African animals to discover over 100 photography missions. We’re going to do something a little different with this review, though. I actually didn’t write the meat of this review. A co-worker and good friend of mine enjoys playing PS3 games with his son, James Kessler, so I decided to have 9-year-old James review it (plus I don’t have a PS3). So read on for his take on the game:
You are a photographer going to Africa to go take pictures. When you get there, you meet a woman who tells you about Africa. You seem excited to be at this country.
When you get to the title screen, select new game, or if you already have a file ready, click continue. If you click new game, you’ll encounter a really long loading process. Then you select your person, male or female, and the game sends you to your camp then the lady who’s in there will tell you what to do next.
The game isn’t really hard to do. All you have to do is listen to the simple instructions, such as moving around with the left analog stick. Though you can use binoculars, don’t use them on the vehicle. When you do, the vision of them zooms upward, and can be very annoying if you can’t control them. The overall game play is quite fun, and the graphics are amazing! Real photographers might like this game, if they also liked video games. Sadly, I don’t like this game much though, gamers who like challenges couldn’t change the difficulty on this game. For those people, this game may be too easy. The camera controls actually feel like you’re using a camera though. People who can’t get stuff to normal may like this game. I like the license (probably, I didn’t play that long) upgrading.
Overall, the game is probably a five out of ten because of graphics, easy controls and story.
James Kessler is a 9-year-old student at Northwest Elementary School in Fort Worth, TX.
Kid Factor:
