That get your attention? Anyway, this isn’t game related but it does demonstrate how phenomenally stupid censorship is. I was reading an article about pop music in 1999 and the MTV/Radio edit of Eminem’s THE REAL SLIM SHADY came up. I know the song well enough but this is what struck me. Eminem sings about how stupid it is to censor sexual stuff because kids have the Discovery channel (meaning they can watch rhino’s having sex) – I’d add that today they have the Internet, where you can’t throw a rock without hitting a picture of breasts – so kids, Eminem says, grow up not knowing what a woman’s CLITORIS is. The ironic thing? In the name of censorship, the word CLITORIS is bleeped out of the song. Thus reinforcing Eminem’s point. Irony, gotta love it! Video here: The Real Stupid Censorship.

Pretty funny, yet pretty sad. Trying to censor Eminem is like trying to drain a lake with a teaspoon, it just isn’t worth the trouble.

As a kids I traveled a lot between N America and Europe and it was obvious very quickly that N A censored sex and Europe censored violence. At home I was unable to to see the vulgarity of breasts or discussion about the thing every one of our ancestors has done and in Europe they were protecting me from the gratuitous violence of Star Wars.
It also meant that I was exposed to mostly everything, I got my violence at home and my sex overseas. I really think both cultures got it wrong.

Absolutely, Europe’s censorship is sociological misunderstanding (“violence causes violence”) and in America it’s due to our Religious folks (“boobs = teens having sex before marriage”). Both are wrong, because violence has its own causes (poverty, unemployment, sexism, racism, alcohol, abuse) and risky sex is more due to repression than permissiveness.
I mean, Europe has a MUCH lower Teen Pregnancy rate than we, and violence there seems to be caused more by hooliganism and alcohol problems.
But censoring the medical term of a woman’s anatomy seems… more offensive to me than anything here. It’s not like a used a crude or offensive term for it and the context makes the whole thing stupidly ironic.

Yeah. That is really stupid. I mean, if they censored the f bomb or something, that would at least be understandable, but censoring the word clitoris is just idiotic. I mean, it’s an anatomical term, just like, say, metatarsals. Would they censor that? Grow up, America!
