Pixar Disappoints?

I could be wrong but the just announced slate from Pixar/Disney has me a bit apprehensive. I like Pixar because I never know what the next movie will BE! It’s always a surprise. Something new and risky.  So, what’s coming soonish? Will it be insanely creative like Up or Monsters Inc? Will it be fun and simple like A Bugs Life and Cars? Will it be amazingly beautiful and artistic like Ratatouille, Finding Nemo and Wall-E? Will it be a load of just plain fun, Incredibles? Will it be comfortable? Toy Story 1 & 2?  This summer we get Toy Story 3, then Cars 2, then Monsters Inc., 2, somewhere around then we get a remake of Winnie the Pooh and a Muppet Movie (those are through Disney). The only original film seems to be about a Bear & a Bow and that’s just putting that Disney bear cartoon – the one that wasn’t bad – in my head. Where’s the risk? Come on Pixar, don’t give up clearing the path. You’re not about exploiting your IPs.

  1. Well, I can agree on the disappointment about the lack of new IP, but I’ve been waiting for a sequel to the Incredibles since the day it came out! I love that movie.

  2. I like a lot of of Pixar’s films. Toy Story was really good. I liked A Bug’s Life and Cars. I was not a big Incredibles or Ratatouille fan, but most of Pixar’s stuff has been at worst entertaining, and at best magnificent. Looking forward to Toy Story 3, Cars 2, could take or leave Monsters Inc. 2, and the others just sound like bad ideas to me.

  3. After the one-two punch that was Wall-E and Up these past two years, I will be very sad if Pixar doesn’t bring something seriously awesome. I don’t have too clear a memory of their other films, but I thought they were all great, with the exception of Cars, which I found unimpressive by comparison.

  4. I’m trying to look on Pixar film sequels as I now do video game franchises — people who know what they’re doing take something I liked, and give me more of it. I really can’t complain about that.

Now, that said, would I like to be blown away again, like I was with Wall-E? Sure. But I can’t ask them to hit a homer every game, if you know what I mean.
