I got the news today… Oh Boy… It seems my little book didn’t make the grade. Now i’m feeling very small. I thought I had it all … And now I take fall. Vlad was rejected by both Agent and publisher. Lose Turn, do not collect $200. – Sounds dire, doesn’t it? Yes it does, but I am safe in the knowledge that what’s actually happened is that George Lucas has turned me down. Sooo… paging Mr. Speilberg and so on down the list. Instead of a homer at my first time at bat, it’s a ground rule double. There’s always the next pitch. But for now? Yeah, yeah it hurts. It really, really hurts.

Sorry to hear about the rejection. It only hurts if you let it. Dead trees are dinosaurs. There’s always self publication. You could look at http://1889.ca/ for some possible inspiration.

Andrew,
Sorry to hear about this. I was excited about all the news and updates. And knowing the different projects that you’ve had over the years, it makes this setback disappointing. But it is only a setback. Good luck and keep moving forward. You and the family are in my thoughts.

Don’t let it get you down, man! Look how close you came – most hopeful authors will never get anywhere NEAR this close. If it was crap you wouldn’t have, either. You HAVE something, man, you just gotta keep at it.
Dr. Seuss, Jacqueline Susann, and William Faulkner were all rejected before they enjoyed celebrated careers. In a rejection sent to Faulkner, the publisher wrote “Good God, I can’t publish this!” Lord of the Flies was called “an absurd and uninteresting fantasy,” and poet/novelist Sylvia Plath was told she didn’t have enough genuine talent. Even Stephen King’s Carrie and George Orwell’s Animal Farm were rejected, because publishers said each book dealt on topics which wouldn’t sell.

Stay strong and don’t give up. All rejection means is you are trying to get published, it says nothing of the quality of your work.

I am lucky to know you all and iam not discouraged.
I just got turned down by the best, there’s a lot of rest out there. Plus, the agent gave me a page of notes from Feiwel and Friends, improvements I want to do. And reminded me that having a pretigious house or agent engage then pass on you, is still impressive to other houses. Thanks again all! Ill keep you posted!
That should keep me out of the dreaded First Timer author pile

The readings at home have been impressive. Maggie actually had to tell him to stop so she could process the book. You have a wonderful gift and it will be shared with others in your books. You will do wonderful things. I love you and support you all the way.

I’m really sorry, GD, but it sounds like you still have plenty of options. Don’t give up hope, I’m sure you’ll make it soon enough.

Oooh, bummer. Glad to know you’re feeling OK about it and moving forward on the next pitch…

If I was ready to give up now, I never should have started. These guys have limited money, limited lists, and unlimited submissions. I caught the eye of the bigtime on the first try, really, it’s an honor just to be nominated.
It’s a brightside way of looking at it, but also true.
