Game Review: Nickelodeon Fit (Wii)

There are lots of fitness games for the Wii, and now there’s one for the youngest gamers in your family. Nickelodeon Fit lets your little gamers have fun and stay fit with their favorite Nick Jr. characters like The Backyardigans, Dora, Diego, and Kai-lan, as well as Nick Jr.’s moose host and his bird friend!

Young gamers can exercise with characters from their favorite Nick Jr. shows. Jump rope, bowl, and bounce colors and shapes with the Backyardigans. Help Diego practice animal rescuing skills by skateboarding, river rafting, and tossing beach balls to dolphins. Bounce balloons and throw footballs with Kai-lan and her friends. And help Dora and Boots hula hoop and explore on pogo sticks and bikes. There are even a couple of games where all the characters play together, and there are even multiplayer modes to enjoy.

Each game requires your child to perform certain motions with the Wii Balance Board, but if you don’t own one, the Wii remote is compatible with all games, too, and works very well. Nick Jr.’s Moose explains each game with spoken words and picture cues, as do the other characters, so no reading skill is required. By playing games, you’ll unlock harder versions of each challenge and earn trophies, medals, and ribbons you can view in a trophy case. Control with the Wii remote is very responsive and easy to use. The only time that parents may need to help their kids is when they are setting up profiles.

Only problem with Nickelodeon Fit is it may not keep kids interested for very long after they’ve unlocked everything. It could’ve used a few more characters, like the Wonder Pets (my favorite). Plus, the name is a bit misleading. They should’ve called it Nick Jr. Fit. Older Nick fans might’ve had more fun exercising with SpongeBob, The Penguins of Madagascar, and Invader ZIM instead.

Some may see Nickelodeon Fit as just another Wii mini-game collection, and they would be partially right. But it’s the parental controls and instruction booklet that help separate Nickelodeon Fit from that. In the game, parents can view their children’s fitness progress, customize routines for them, and view games that exercise certain body parts. The instruction booklet is very well written, too, and even includes a letter with advice from a doctor and top children’s fitness expert. Nickelodeon Fit is rated E for Everyone.

  1. The GAME is great. The Board Sucks Monkey Feathers. It powers down and unsyncs itself, it will not resync . Buy an actual balance board from Nintendo and this game separately. any one have a Wii Balance board for sale?
