Game Review: Learn Science (DS)

If you know a kid who enjoys watching Mythbusters on TV, doing science experiments, or just loves learning about the subject in general, then Dreamcatcher has a DS game for you. In Learn Science, your little lab rat will play mini-games based on experiments and principles in multiple fields of science.

There are several modes of play in Learn Science. You can practice the mini-games freely in the main games mode. To unlock higher difficulties and more mini-games, you’ll need to attempt Career mode, which challenges you to complete three mini-games in a row. You can only try Career mode once per day, though. There is also a multiple choice quiz to test your science knowledge.

The mini-games are based on science experiments and principles you might have done in elementary or middle school. Fill water in bottles to repeat a melody of notes, mix paint to make new colors, arrange blocks so a falling ball can hit a target, or use mirrors to reflect light to a specific area. There are other mini-games based on Biology, Physics, the Human Body, and more. Each mini-game has three different difficulty levels you can unlock. The whole game has kind of a TV studio backdrop, as to show that all fields of science are useful in many real life situations. You can challenge friends with various multiplayer modes, too.

Kid Factor:

While younger kids can easily figure out the simpler difficulty levels and games, Learn Science is best enjoyed by older elementary school gamers. Reading skill is a must, and sometimes the text doesn’t explain the games as well as they should. Luckily you must start each game on the easiest setting, so it’s pretty simple to figure out the games just by playing. The harder difficulties will definitely provide more of a challenge. Learn Science is a neat way to make education fun, and it’s rated E for Everyone.
