Game Review: Country Dance (Wii)

If you like country music, now’s your chance to boot scoot on the Wii with some of the most popular country songs. In Country Dance, hold the Wii remote and move it up, down, side to side, and around in circles in time with the beat, using picture cues on the bottom of the screen. The fewer misses you have and moves that are closer to the beat by the end of the song will boost your score. Kick up your boots with more than two dozen hit tunes.

Country Dance has four game modes. Normal is just the standard game, while Perfection is best for experts as it only counts “Great” score rankings. Stop N Go is like Freeze Dance, where you must stop moving when the music stops, or you’ll lose points. Finally is a quick Tutorial mode to get you used to the controls and rules. Up to four players can join in any of the dance modes.

Country Dance features more than 25 songs, including ones from artists like Rascal Flatts, Johnny Cash, Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus, Carrie Underwood, and many more. Country Dance could’ve used more game modes and features, like maybe a profile editor to make your own dancer. It’s a more simple, less involved experience, but if you just want to have fun dancing to your favorite country hits, then Country Dance might fit the bill.

Kid Factor:

Country Dance is rated E-10 with an ESRB descriptor of Lyrics, but it’s nothing worse than what you hear on the radio. Reading skill isn’t necessary with the picture cues, and because of the forgiving difficulty, even young dancers can have fun here. Plus it’s good exercise. Kids who love to dance and listen to country music will especially enjoy this.
