Super Mario Fruit Snacks
So we were at the grocery store today and I saw this: Super Mario fruit snacks. Of course I had to buy them. You know you’re popular when you get your own fruit snacks. So let’s take a look at what these are.
And here’s the box.
Looks like there are six shapes, although it’s hard to tell on some of them. You have Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, a Koopa turtle shell, Toad, and a Star. No, the Star one won’t make you invincible when you eat it, but it is nice that my favorite Mario character, Toad, made it into fruit snack form. They don’t taste very good either, which is strange because as a kid, I used to love fruit snacks. I don’t know if it’s an age thing, or they really are getting worse. Anyone remember Garfield fruit snacks? Those were really good and there wasn’t another brand of fruit snack that tasted quite like those.
And here’s what’s on the back of the box.
Mario Sudoku?!? I’m actually surprised Nintendo hasn’t made a game of that yet, given the popularity. The puzzles were pretty easy, too. I didn’t even need to cut out the pieces! Seeing as though these fruit snacks were made by Kellogg’s, I wonder if Mario cereal or Pop Tarts are next. Personally, I’d rather see food products based on Kirby or Zelda or Metroid. How about you?
You know, it’s not the first time Mario was made into a fruit snack. Back when I was a kid during the NES and SNES heyday, both Mario AND Zelda got their own fruit snacks. I remember them tasting better than these new ones, too. They also had a contest in those that if you found a blue princess shaped fruit snack, you could sent it in and get a T-shirt that said “I saved the Princess.” I’m not making this stuff up, folks!
Another unusual Mario food item I remember as a kid was Mario fruit flavored sodas. Anyone else remember those? They were in little pony-sized cans and came in four flavors. Mario Cherry, Luigi Berry, Yoshi Green Apple and Princess Toadstool Pink Fruit Punch. I drank tons of the green apple one during one summer.
Yeah I know, I’m a freak. I promise the next thing I write about will be a real game review. –Cary

Too lazy to log in, bleh. I remember back when I used to buy Pokemon fruit snacks. They were pretty good. I agree as well, they keep tasting worse, bleck. I think the only ones I can eat anymore are Fruit by the foot and those HIC ones nowadays.

I remember the Mario fruit snacks from the early 90’s. I also remember I was eating a bag at night while I was playing outside and just as I was about to eat one, I dropped it. It turned out to be the elusive blue princess! I sent the snack in the mail, as was required, and a year later I got my t-shirt! The real problem is when I went out of the country for two years. When I returned I couldn’t find it anymore. I believe my mom threw it away!
