Reader Review: Death Rally (PC)
If you like top down racers like R.C. Pro-Am or Super Sprint, you might be interested in this. You can now download Death Rally on Steam for PC. It’s an updated version of an older computer game from around the mid-90’s or so. Since my brother Jeff is more of the computer game expert, I let him take a stab at this review.
The new Death Rally for Steam is an updated version of the classic top-down racer. In the game you play a notorious street racer who has been picked up by the cops and given a chance to reduce your sentence by participating in dangerous racing events. The game plays like any top-down racer except that you can destroy the other cars while you are racing by using the gun attached to your car and you can even add on an upgraded weapon like a Gatling gun or land mines. There are even other modes like a demolition derby where your only objective is to destroy as many cars as you can. If you want more of a challenge you can switch the game to replace the AI characters with online players. As you play the game you can upgrade your car and weapons and even buy new vehicles with money earned by completing certain objectives while racing or just by placing well. It is a great casual arcade-y game that you can pick up and play easily for a quick gaming session as many of the races are only about a minute or two long. –Jeff Orth
Kid Factor:
Death Rally isn’t rated by the ESRB as far as I can tell, but I would imagine it would get an E-10 to Teen rating. You do shoot other cars but there is no blood. The background storyline is more mature than the actual gameplay. Some parental supervision is always recommended when going online. (Kid Factor by Cary Woodham)
