BoxPop (iPad)
BoxPop derives its rules from the game of chess. Your job is to clear as many squares as possible from various boards. But the rule is that you can only clear out squares in the way that knights move on a chess board (two squares up and one square left or right). Use careful planning to clear as many squares as you can in this puzzler available for download on iPad and iPhone (reviewed on iPad here).
Each level has a different arrangement of squares, and you simply tap on a square to clear it away. The game will show you which spaces you can move to and clear away next. Try and clear as many squares as you can to earn stars. Clear the whole board to earn a maximum of three stars per level. You’ll want to collect as many stars as you can because that’s how you unlock higher levels. The more difficult stages later on gradually increase the number of squares on the playfield.
In-game purchases include the ability to go back one move, and to remove all ads. Although I didn’t see very many ads myself, and never felt the need to have to go back a move since levels were so short. If you’re a big fan of chess and other similar strategy games, you may want to download BoxPop. In the levels, there are even quotes from famous chess players and bits of history on the classic game itself.
Kid Factor:
Nothing violent or objectionable here. Reading skill is helpful for the text, but the game is easy to figure out just by playing. Parental supervision is recommended for in-game purchases.
