The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild amiibo Figures!

When I got my Nintendo Switch, I also got all five of the Breath of the Wild amiibo figures!  My wallet was crying that day, but they’re really cool figures so I wanted to show them off to you all.

Chime Sharp (PS4, PC)

Chime Sharp is a block puzzle challenge that’ll please fans of games like Tetris and Lumines. I actually reviewed the original Chime game way back in 2011 on the PS3, and even then it was a “Super Deluxe” version.  This “Sharp” version adds some new challenging gameplay modes.  It’s available for download on PS4 and PC, but reviewed on PS4 here

Death Squared (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

The best way to describe Death Squared is that it’s like a block pushing puzzle game, except you’re the blocks!  In the game you control two to four colored cube-shaped robots, and must get them to same colored targets without any of them dying.  But that’s easier said than done with all the traps laid out in each room!  Death Squared is available to download on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, but reviewed on PS4 here.

LEGO Dimensions Knight Rider Fun Pack

When I was a little kid, I mostly watched cartoons on TV.  But there were some live action shows that caught my interest.  One was The Dukes of Hazzard.  Mainly because it had cars that jumped over ramps and stuff.  I would get out my Pac-Man TV tray and play with my Dukes of Hazzard cars while the show was on (keep in mind I was like, five years old).  I wish they could’ve made a Dukes of Hazzard LEGO Dimensions set, but I think I may know why they didn’t (but we won’t get into that here).  Anyway, another show I liked as a kid was Knight Rider.  I don’t remember as much about the human characters in the show.  I know David Hasselhoff was in it, but I don’t know what he did (did he even have a job?).  But the most important part of the show to Little Cary was that it had a TALKING CAR!!!  Back then, all of us kids had Big Wheels and I remember when the Knight Rider Big Wheel came out and it has a brake mechanism that would make your Big Wheel spin out.  I was so jealous of the kids who had that, but not too jealous since I was still pretty happy with my Pac-Man Big Wheel.  Anyway, now you can relive the action of the TV show in LEGO form with the Knight Rider Fun Pack for LEGO Dimensions.  The game is available for nearly all current home game consoles, but reviewed on Wii U here.

Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas (PS4, Xbox One, PC, iOS, Google Play)

On a rainy night, your dad sneaks out of the cottage while you’re asleep, sword and shield in hand.  He set off to fight a mythical sea monster called Oceanhorn, but you never heard from your dad again after that.  Years later you set off to do the same thing, sailing from small islands to collect gear and magical emblems to help you on your quest.  If this sounds a lot like Legend of Zelda, you’re right, as it borrows especially from titles like Link to the Past and Wind Waker.  But even though it’s a direct ripoff, is it still as good?  You’ll have to read on to find out!  Oceanhorn is available to download on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and mobile devices, but reviewed on PS4 here.

A Pixel Story (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

So you’re a single pixel block happily bouncing away in a game of Pong.  Then all of a sudden, things get glitchy and you get warped to a strange temple where you get arms and legs and a face.   Now you’re on a platform jumping puzzle adventure to save The System from an evil program.  With the help of your new red floppy (and familiar looking) hat, you’ll warp through four generations of graphics in games as you solve switch flipping and jumping time puzzles to save the day.  Originally on PC, now you can download A Pixel Story on PS4 and Xbox One (PS4 version reviewed here).

LEGO Dimensions: The LEGO Batman Movie Story Pack

Recently, The LEGO Batman Movie came out in theaters, and it’s a blast!  Not quite as good as the original LEGO Movie that it spun off from, but still a hoot and a half in its own right.  Now you can relive the action and fun of that new flick with The LEGO Batman Movie Story Pack for LEGO Dimensions.  It’s available for nearly all the current game consoles, but reviewed on Wii U here.

Death Squared (PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac)

Death Squared is a member of that unique category of cooperative puzzle game. Little square robots maneuver around platforms to reach their color-coded ending spot. It can be played solo, by moving robots one (or two) at a time, the game shines when played fully cooperatively – so you can congratulate or humiliate your partner depending on their performance in solving the puzzle.

Vertical Drop Heroes HD (PS4, Vita, Xbox One, PC)

Vertical Drop Heroes is a roguelike game.  Meaning you travel through randomly generated dungeons and try and last as long as you can.  But the dungeons in this game are unique.  You drop vertically down, like a well, fighting baddies and collecting items along the way.  It kind of reminds me of Mr. Driller, except the gameplay is totally different (actually there is one game mode in the Japan only Drill Land game that is more like it).  It’s available for download on PS4, Vita, Xbox One, and PC, but reviewed on PS4 here.

Semispheres (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

Semispheres is a really unique and fun action puzzle game downloadable for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, but reviewed on PS4 here.  You control two jellyfish-like things, one orange, one blue.  They both have a maze on each side of the screen that they must navigate to reach a common goal.  Once each one arrives, you can move to the next level.  But here’s the trick, you control both characters at the same time!  You use the left analog stick to move the orange jellyfish on the left side of the screen, and the right analog stick to control the blue one on the right.  The challenge comes from figuring out the puzzle mazes while keeping track of both characters!
