Mowy Lawn (iOS)
Spring is in full force, and for many that means having to mow the lawn again! Get ready for it by playing this free-to-play mobile game about mowing the lawn. Yes, really! There’s a game for everything now! The graphics and title are probably a parody of another popular mobile game called Crossy Road, but I don’t think they’re both made by the same folks. Speaking of Crossy Road, if you want to play a good mobile Pac-Man game by the same people who made Crossy Road, then try out Pac-Man 256.
Anyway, the controls for Mowy Lawn couldn’t be simpler. Your lawn mower automatically goes forward, and you just tap the screen to make it turn right (no left turns). So you must time your taps to avoid obstacles while mowing tall grass in mazes. So in a way, it is kind of like Pac-Man, too. The more grass you mow, the more stars you get in a level. Stars unlock new worlds and net you coins, which you can also find under grass you’ve mowed. Spend coins to buy new lawn mowers, some of which have different attributes like faster speed and whatnot. The lawn mowers you can buy all look like cute little animal mowers, like a goat, cat, or even a “BatMOWbile.” Only problem is it takes TONS of coins to buy these new mowers, or you can just pay real money which is what they probably want you to do. Such is life with free-to-play games. To pass a level, you must mow enough grass and then a fence will open up where you started and you must go back there to finish.
If you get hit by an obstacle or enemy you must start the level over again and you’ll lose one of your gas cans. Lose all of your gas cans and you must wait a while for them to refill, or you can view ads or pay money to refill them. Obstacles include pits, fenceposts, animals and projectiles. Only problem I had with the game is that it can be really hard to avoid the obstacles since you can only turn right, and it gets especially tough once they start adding moving platforms to the mix. I do like the pixel graphics and the game has a bit of humor, too. I love it when you complete a level and some birds on a fence dance to a sped up version of the Mexican hat dance song. If you don’t mind the free-to-play problems, Mowy Lawn is a cute little time waster.
Kid Factor:
If your lawn mower hits an obstacle, it’ll explode into pixelly pieces, but that’s about as violent as it gets. Reading skill is helpful for some of the text, but not necessary just to play. Parental supervision is recommended for the in-game ads and purchases.

I think I played this game in real life all through high school.

If I was into game development as a kid, I probably would’ve thought of a lawn mower game like this one.
