The Legend of Zelda Astro Gaming Headset

Astro Gaming is one of the leading makers of gaming headphones, and now they’ve made one featuring The Legend of Zelda.  Let’s take a look at it, as well as another headset celebrating the 10th anniversary of Astro Gaming’s A40 model, too!

Here’s a larger picture of the front of the box for the Zelda headset.  Even though it features the Nintendo Switch logo prominently on the box, the headset will work with any console, PC, or other device that takes headphone jacks.  It’s just optimized for Nintendo Switch, as we’ll see in a moment.

Here’s one side of the headphones out of the box.  It has the Zelda “Z” on it.

The other side has the Zelda Sheikah eye symbol.

Even the top has the Zelda logo on it!

Here’s a picture of one of the cords.  Now WHY in the world would I take a picture of the cords?  Well, because one, the Zelda Z is on this one, too.  But the other reason has to do with the microphone.  You see, the Nintendo Switch does not support voice chat, which is one of the reasons why I don’t gush about it like a lot of people do.  You have to use a smartphone app to do voice chat on the Switch.  But Astro gaming got around that.  They included this splitter thing that you can plug the headphone jack into and then the other ones go into the Switch and your smartphone.  So you really can use the microphone!  The other included cord (not pictured) is the headphone jack.  It’s neat because it has a volume control directly on it, but the one thing I don’t like about it is that it’s too short.  I can use it when my Switch is undocked, but not when it is docked.  Luckily most other headphone jacks will work if you have a longer one. Just make sure it’s pushed in all the way or it won’t work.

The headphones work great on the Switch, and sound MUCH better than the cheapy earbuds I usually use.  It works right out of the box on the Switch.  So between that and the splitter, it really is optimized for that system.  But it’ll work with other devices, too.  I tried it on my PS4 and it also works great, although I had to fiddle with some menu options first.  So if you have a Zelda fan in your life who needs a gaming headset, this would be a great gift idea.

Next up is some headphones celebrating the 10th anniversary of Astro Gaming and the A40 model.  Here’s the box.

And here’s a picture of it out of the box.

This one is optimized for more PC gaming, as it includes a PC splitter and a longer headphone jack (but without the volume control on the cord).  But it’ll work with other consoles and devices, too.  And those are the headsets!  They both work great and fit well and I think anyone would be happy with them.
