Pretty Girls Escape (PS4, PS5, Switch, PC)
Play a fun color matching block puzzle game while being accompanied by cute anime ladies in Pretty Girls Escape. It’s available on PlayStation consoles, Switch, and PC, but reviewed on PS4 here.
The basic gameplay in this puzzler is actually pretty fun. You know those games on mobile devices where when you tap on the screen or use a cursor to clear out blocks of the same color, the rest fall and you try and clear out as many as possible? Well that’s basically what this is except with a few tweaks. On the top of the screen sits panels of the girls, and your job is to make them fall all the way to the bottom and go into slots. You can use the L and R shoulder buttons to slide the whole set of blocks and panels left or right, but they won’t fall until they hit the other end of the playfield. When all the panels go into the slots at the bottom, you win the level.
There are two main modes of play. In the first one, you choose a set of six stages represented by a different lady. These stages introduce new blocks into play, such as ones that don’t move when you slide, ones that need to be broken by adjacent clearing of blocks, and even ones that’ll destroy the panels you’re trying to put on the bottom of the screen if you touch them! You have optional missions in these stages where you must try to clear out all the blocks, finish in a certain time, etc. You can still pass the stage if you don’t do the missions, you’ll just get extra points if you do. The other mode is more puzzle oriented where you must figure out how to clear out a certain number of blocks to send the panels down. Both modes are pretty fun.
There is also a dressing room where you spend points by playing the game to unlock outfits and backgrounds for the ladies. And that’s pretty much it. Only minor problem I had was it’s kind of annoying to have to start the whole stage over if you mess up. And the pretty girl aspect really doesn’t add anything to the gameplay. But otherwise it’s a fun little puzzler.
Kid Factor:
Pretty Girls Escape is rated T for Teen with an ESRB descriptor of Suggestive Themes. You can unlock slightly revealing swimsuits and bikinis for the cartoon ladies, but that’s about it. It’s really not that bad. Reading skill is helpful for the text, but not necessary just to play.
