Fitness Circuit (Switch)

Here’s another motion controlled fitness game on Switch!  Use the JoyCons to perform cardio and strength actions to give energy to a virtual fitness trainer.  You can pick from three female and three male trainers.  The energy you give them by doing the exercises correctly lets them perform extreme activities like climbing buildings or swinging across bridges in a virtual world that makes me think of TRON.  Oddly enough, this game was published by Spike Chunsoft, who specializes in a lot of niche RPGs, and developed by Jupiter, who makes a lot of Picross titles!

You can choose a daily routine or customize one yourself.  You’ll do a series of alternating cardio and strength movements and you get a better score if you follow the movements close on screen.  You can do Easy, Medium, and Hard versions, which just gives you more sets of each to do.  After you do an exercise, you get experience points and when you get enough, you’ll level up and can unlock new exercises and outfits for your trainers.  You can also edit your trainers’ looks and outfits and your own profile as well.

Most of the time the game reads your JoyCon movements just fine, but every now and then I had a little trouble getting it to work right.  Also this game seems pretty low impact and made me lose interest quickly.  I’d say a gym membership would be a much better investment.  But if you must have an at-home fitness game, this one can’t beat Ring Fit Adventures, which I think is the best fitness game ever made.

Kid Factor:

Nothing violent or objectionable here.  Reading skill is helpful for some of the text, but not necessary just to play.  Fitness Circuit is rated E for Everyone.
