Roxy Raccoon’s Pinball Panic (PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, X/S, PC)
Many popular video game franchises and characters eventually get their own video pinball game. Mario, Kirby, Sonic, Pac-Man, even Metroid! But Roxy Raccoon? Who the heck is that? Apparently it’s a 3D platformer that was released a few years ago. I think it was just on PC so that’s probably why I never heard of it. But now you can play a pinball adventure based on that game. It’s available on all current consoles and PC, but reviewed on PS4 here.
Play control is pretty simple. Use the L and R buttons to move the flippers, and the button to launch the ball. In Story Mode, you’ll go through several pinball tables based on the game, and when you roll the ball over all the gems in each one, you can move onto the next table when you finish. But the gems are sometimes in hard to reach spots! There are other pinball challenges, too.
But the best part of the game is the arcade mode. Here you can pick from 15 different pinball tables to play. There are also 15 different arcade style games to play, too. Granted, they’re going for quantity over quality here. Most of the pinball tables are pretty basic and not the best designed layouts sometimes. And they don’t tell you how to play the arcade games so in some of them I had no idea what to do. Plus some feel like a programmer’s school project. And the graphics look like they could’ve been done on the PSOne. But for some reason, I still enjoyed this one. It was neat to see and play all those tables and it was simple and easy to understand. It won’t beat out Pinball FX or anything like that, but this one’s still mildly entertaining.
Kid Factor:
Roxy Raccoon’s Pinball Panic is rated E for Everyone with ESRB descriptors of Mild Fantasy Violence and Alcohol Reference. I didn’t notice any alcohol, but you can hit rabbits in a whack-a-mole style pinball table. Reading skill is helpful for some of the text, but not necessary just to play.
