Bare Butt Boxing (Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, X/S, PC)

Box all sorts of crazy characters in this madcap multiplayer romp.  Play as a frog, fish, skeleton, robots, and more as you punch other players into warp holes for points.  Bare Butt Boxing is available on all current consoles and PC, but reviewed on Switch here.

You can play the game solo, local multiplayer, or online.  You’ll first pick your character.  You can customize it with colors and other accessories, but you have to buy them with coins you earn by playing matches.  You can do a quick match or a custom match where you can select the different arenas and power-ups.  Press the L and R buttons to punch with your left and right hands, and move around with the control stick.  You can also dash and jump with other buttons.  When you punch another player into a warp hole, you’ll earn a point.  Whoever has the most points after a given time, wins.  You can also collect power-ups but I have no idea what they do since the game doesn’t have much in the way of instructions.

Other problems I had was it was hard to tell if you were hitting someone or not, and it was easy to lose your character placement in all the chaos.  Plus it takes forever to earn enough coins to unlock anything, so it gets repetitive fast.  I guess if you have a bunch of friends who like pick up and play silly multiplayer titles it might be fine, but there really isn’t much to it.

Kid Factor:

Bare Butt Boxing is rated E for Everyone.  I’m surprised this didn’t get an ESRB descriptor of Violence, as you punch all sorts of silly creatures.  But it’s all very cartoony.  Reading skill isn’t needed either.
