Rivenaar’s Grove (PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, X/S)

You are an apprentice to a potion maker, and it’s your job to collect the herbs in the fields.  Gather them all in this action puzzle game.  It’s available on all current game consoles but reviewed on PS4 here.

You’ll guide your little apprentice left, up, down, and right on the D-pad.  When he goes one direction, he won’t stop until you hit the end of the field.  When you collect all the plants, you’ll move onto the next level.  If you mess up, you can just press the triangle button to start the level over.  Sometimes you must watch out for obstacles like thorns or portals.  There are 50 levels in all.

The main set of levels are pretty easy.  I was able to beat all 50 in about half an hour.  But there are a couple of other modes you can select, too.  There is a mode where you get a limited number of moves to beat a level, and those are a separate set of 50 stages.  And there is also a timed mode where you must beat a set of five levels in a time limit, and there are eight of those sets as well.  So it has a little bit of replay value.  It’s a simple game, but I kind of liked it.  Made me think of a more puzzle centric Pac-Man.  Namco, take note!

Kid Factor:

Nothing violent or objectionable here.  If you hit a thorny plant, the stage just starts over immediately.  Reading skill is helpful for some of the text, but not necessary just to play.  Rivenaar’s Grove is rated E for Everyone.
