Marvel’s Women of Power (PS3, PS4, Vita, Xbox One, 360, PC, iOS)
Girl Power is taking over pinball! A bevvy of Marvel’s superheroines have teamed up to bring you two new action packed pinball tables for play on Zen Studios’ pinball platforms: Pinball FX2 and Zen Pinball 2. They’re available on nearly all current game consoles and computers, but reviewed on PS3 here.
You can download and play the new Marvel’s Women of Power pack on consoles that support Zen Studios pinball platforms. When you download Pinball FX 2 or Zen Pinball 2 (depending on which game console you own), you’re just downloading the hub. It’s free, and then you purchase separate tables for play in the game. Here are the two tables in the Marvel’s Women of Power pack.
Marvel’s Women of Power: A-Force
Black Widow from S.H.I.E.L.D. is battling Madame Masque of Hydra over a Cosmic Cube. When the cube shatters, reality changes and New York is now taken over by Soviet Russia. Now Black Widow must team up with the A-Force to set things right in this pinball table. Recruit superheroines like She-Hulk to give you bonus points as you battle all sorts of villains that I’ve never heard of before. While this table isn’t bad, it’s hard to activate missions and mini-games, so it just ended up being kind of bland to me. Although I still think it was cool that She-Hulk was in this table, as she is my favorite Marvel female character (but only because Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney is in her ending in Marvel vs. Capcom 3).
Marvel’s Women of Power: Champions
This pinball table is more lighthearted and colorful. Ms. Marvel, who has stretchy superpowers, is finishing up her first day on the job at a coffee shop. When suddenly, Bombshell robs a bank and takes the coffee shop’s cashbox, too! Now it’s up to Ms. Marvel to team up with her friends like Squirrel Girl and Spider-Gwen to save the day! In this table, you can send the ball through a ring to teleport Bombshell to the scene so Ms. Marvel can do battle. You can also have Ms. Marvel charge up the pinball with “Inhuman Energy” for more points. I did like the more colorful visuals and cartoony sound effects on this table, as it reminded me of pinball games I enjoyed in the 80’s. Only problem is it’s hard to get up some of the ramps.
Kid Factor:
All Zen Pinball games are rated E-10 with ESRB descriptors of Fantasy Violence and Mild Language. But this is pinball and is safe and fairly non-violent and has been around for many generations. Youngsters love superheroes, and if you’re OK with your kids watching the movies and reading the comic books, they’ll be OK with the game, too. Reading skill is helpful for some of the rules and menu texts, but not necessary just to play.
