Still Left 4 Dead
My house is filled with moaning, groaning, pale creatures spewing noxious yellow bile everywhere… Oh and I’m playing Left 4 Dead a lot too. RIMSHOT See, the Bubs have the stomach flu. Maggie has been curled up with her Cooking Mama, Henry has been dominating on Mario Party 8 on the big screen, GamerMom has been working herself to a frenzy, it’s Christmastime, snowing daily, and we’re all really, really sick. Sounds like a great time to talk a bit about using videogames to help heal.
During the 4 months or so of constant pain from my surgery, I learned this to be true. It’s no mystery, videogames distract. Just as specific pain can be relieved with a hot shower, a game can take you away from the very worst thing about being sick or an extended hospital stay – and thats boredom. I’ve been taking care of the kids and when they go to bed, I kiss GamerMom goodnight and I’m on Steam’s servers with my pals Louis, Zoey and Francis and we’re just trying to survive together. My problem is, I don’t know those other three and even though I’m finding the Xbox Live and Steam communities VERY cool to play with (no cussing, no racism, so far) I’d like to play with some of you.
Who wants to fight the horde, work together, and survive the zombie apocalypse with me? Lets deck the halls.
Steam GamerDad
PLEASE NOTE the game is M-mature. Kids shouldn’t be playing it. If you play with me and are a kid, don’t tell me, okay? I’ll just assume your parents know what you’re doing. The screaming is a dead giveaway afterall.

I hope everyone gets better in time for the holidays. I don’t have Left for Dead, but I do have Call of Duty: World at War for the PC so if you ever want to play a co-op zombies game, left me know. Some buddies and I made it to level 27 once. 🙂
You can find me on xfire or in cod as dicknervous.

I don’t post here often, but I guess I will make an exception for playing more Left 4 Dead than I should. My Steam name is Mrop.
Perhaps you could explain why you are playing Valve games on a console? Are you some sort of crazy person?

Ha! While I’m no longer “true-blue” PC I actually have both. They sent me the Xbox 360 one and I STEAMED the PC one for myself (sometimes I do buy games). I’ve kept the 360 version because it has split-screen co-op. The scares are even better when the person screaming for help is sitting on the couch next to you.

Just hit your blog after searching for “parent game reviews”. Hopefully you know this but your listing on google is ranked three for that seearch string. Good thing too. I’m glad I found your site. I’ll be taking a gander at all of your stuff here. I don’t have L4D yet but have been thinking about it, as I’m always up for a good zombie-related game! (or movie..) but I’ll add your gamertag! You’ll be the first since I just got the xbox 360 this Christmas! 🙂 mine is s4ndm4n2006.

Right Vapour… I misremembered the flick. I was sick you know!
And Mike, when do you usually go online to play games like Left 4 Dead (which, yes, I am still playing!) They need an even higher difficulty level than they have!

Welcome aboard S4ndm4n! Thanks for the compliments and I hope you stick around.

I have just been playing offline so far … I have no standard online game time … just whenever it happens.

Then you haven’t played. It’s all about hearing real strangers panic, help each other, screw up, and actually start to like each other. The AI just makes sure that you are in front.
If you want to play it online sometime, tell me when.

Ain’t that the truth. I broke my wrist at the beginning of the summer, and I was told I’d have to keep the cast for the whole summer. All I had to keep me company was my Xbox 360 (I couldn’t really reach the WASD keys with my cast :P) and it actually helped. It is disapointing to realize that all I could do of my summer was play video games, but it made the time go by a lot quicker. Instead of being pissed off about my cast, I had video games to distract me, and I wasn’t bothered by it at all really.
And about Left 4 Dead, I have it, but my 360 got the Red Ring of Death a few weeks ago, so I’ve had to send it off for repairs. It’s still over there, but when I get it back I’d love to play with you.
My gamertag is: Nob92
Btw, thank you for being one of the very few parents who is responsible about video games, and not flipping out and blaming developers or the ESRB or anyone but themselves. Not a lot of parents seem to understand that they don’t have to buy the game their kid wants. And if they don’t know about the game, they can ask someone else (My parents usually ask me about a game before they buy it for my 10 year-old brother).
