A Package for Child’s Play
I want to second Momgamer’s excellent post about the truly remarkable Child’s Play charity. They are my charity of choice and I am living proof that games can help you convalesce and recover from even a Quadruple Bypass.
GamerDad is donating a 20 lb Box of Child Appropriate games! To Penny Arcade’s excellent Child’s Play Charity. What they do is have member hospitals make wish lists for their outpatients and long-term inpatients, You have to send money, which will be used to buy these items, you can use certain online retailers to remoted fulfill wishes using your credit card, Or you can donate games en mass.
(these games are samples sent to GamerDad, but they also include a lot of older castoffs and classics. I know we like to be collectors folks – but their are better uses for a GameCube or Xbox than you think – and at GamerDad that means kids.)
Roughly 60 games, in a box, on its way to Child’s Play and then to a Children’s Hospital near you! (Another box, with M-rated games, will go out soon to a charity that helps veterans)
Be well, give, and Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, All.

Disclosure: I know the Penny-Arcade creators and company well. I’ve spoken and run panels with industry experts 3 years in a row at their annual – and equally remarkable – Penny-Arcade Expo. Still, no bias here, this is the best run charity in gaming.
UPDATE: I did not send this package to Child’s Play. Turns out they only accept money, or buying things off a wishlist. Both options are fine and I already sent my cash donation for this year. Get-Well Gamers DOES take actual games, even old ones and equipment. So they will be getting two big packages.
