Super Mario Odyssey is Nintendo’s new hit Mario game on the Switch.  So of course they released some amiibo figures to go with it, and they’re all dressed up for the occasion.  In the game, Bowser’s trying to marry Princess Peach, so the amiibo figures have a wedding theme.  Let’s crash the ceremony and check out these new figures!

And here they are out of the box.  As with other amiibo figures, the detail on these is amazing.  I wonder how many people will try and use these as actual wedding cake toppers.  You’d think I would, but I’d rather use Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man, myself.

Super Mario Odyssey actually has pretty good amiibo support.  You can scan these three amiibo at any time to get a boost.  The Mario one gives you temporary invincibility, the Peach one gives you an extra 3-hit heart, and the Bowser one is supposed to detect Power Moons, but all I got out of him when I scanned it was a roar.

You can scan other amiibo, too!  In each world you can find “Uncle amiibo” who looks like a Roomba vacuum cleaner.  Scan an amiibo while talking with him (any amiibo), and within five minutes, he’ll give you a hint to where a Power Moon is.  Some amiibo will even give you special outfits when you do this.  The three wedding amiibo give you the clothes the figures are wearing (Mario in a wedding dress looks very disturbing), but you can also get outfits from other amiibo like Luigi, Dr. Mario, Wario, Waluigi, 8-bit Mario, and Diddy Kong.  I hear that all these outfits are available in the game without amiibo, though.

So what do I think of Mario Odyssey?  I think it’s pretty good.  Maybe not my Game of the Year or anything, but it’s way on up there.  I think it might’ve gotten a little overhyped, but worlds like the Wooded Kingdom and New Donk City are so fun to tromp around in.  I will say that as far as simply beating the game goes, this is one of the easiest 3-D Mario games I’ve played since Super Mario 3-D Land.  But the initial post-game rewards are well worth it.  I’d even say the game doesn’t really start until after you beat it.  But let me know what you think of the game and these amiibo in the comments section!  –Cary
