This Week in Games: Feb. 8 – 14
This week has a bit more interesting stuff than we’ve seen recently, with a few different interesting releases. The multi-platform F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin will try to find success in spite of a demo widely regarded as falling somewhere between mediocre and average. The XBOX360 gets Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned, the Wii sees the release of NASCAR Kart Racing and PSP owners get the sequel to one of the most loved games for the platform with LocoRoco 2. Check out the list!
- Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned
- F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin
- OneChanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad
- Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection
- Mass Effect 2-Disk Edition
- X-Blades

- LocoRoco 2

- Perimeter 2: New Earth
As for last week … the thin set of releases proved to be a mixed bag, with the PC release of Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box gaining similarly high marks as its’ console brethren, the Wii game Tenchu: Shadow Assassins merely showing up as an average effort. Finally the DS RPG My World My Way has some very interesting story and character features, but is thin on content and yet gets too repetitive in gameplay. I finished the DLC Fallout 3: Operation Anchorage and was terribly unimpressed – it actually diminished my memory of the original game.
What I’m Currently Playing:
- PC: Gothic 2 Gold – one of my ‘gaming resolutions’ from the GamerDad article a few years ago was that there was never a bad time to replay a great game … and this one just became available on GoodOldGames! So naturally I grabbed it and installed on my netbook! I still love testing my skill in some of the areas before Khorinis … Xardas isn’t kidding when he says that there is some tough stuff!
- PC: Arcanum – I keep making good progress, this time taking a long side-trip to explore a dungeon area I had avoided through dialogue options!
- PSP: Chili Con Carnage – another old-game replay, this one from 2006. The controls are worse than I remember but the game is just as fun!
Enjoy gaming!

LOTS of games to look forward to this week for me! Mainly Retro Game Challenge for the DS. Also Loco Roco 2 and Ultimate Genesis Collection. Bikini Zombie Slayers just cracks me up. –Cary

Hey, I actually got chili con carnage recently too. I really like the type of gameplay in games like this and Max Payne, as well as Stranglehold. The jumping mechanic makes it a lot more cinematic and makes you feel like you are doing a lot more as the player rather than standing in one spot and aiming at a target. It requires a lot more twitch refelx. My only problem with the game is that it’s much too short and doesn’t really have much of a reason for me to replay aside from being really fun. I’m also stuck at the very end of Max Payne, but that’s another story. >_>

Hey Cary – have you played any of My World, My Way? Do you agree with my sum up – that the petulant young princess character and ‘pout points’ are cool, but ultimately wasted on an unremarkable game?

Still playing a lot of Burnout Paradise (PS3). I bought the Party Pack DLC and it’s a total waste of money. A few (very few) mediocre challenges is not worth $10. Also playing a bit of LEGO Batman (PS3) and not much else right now.

Umm179 – did you get a bargain? I originally paid full price, and don’t think it is a great value at full price – but for a bargain it is really loads of mindless fun.

Haven’t played My World, My Way. I’m kind of curious about it, but also a little leary since last Atlus DS RPG I played was crap (Contact). –Cary

Well of course, I really wouldn’t spend more than 20 on a psp game anyway, unless it was really good. And the thing is I played the demo of the new Resistance game (I pirated that, but it’s a demo, so whatever) and really wasn’t impressed with the fun factor, but then i switched to chili con carnage and had loads of fun.

Picked up Wii Fit recently and the whole family has been playing it regularly. Today is my daughter’s 5th birthday and she will be receiving Animal Crossing: City Folk.

My oldest is really into Sonic right now. So his little brothers are, too. So the last few weeks, there has been a lot of Sonic Chronicles, Sonic Rush, and Mario and Sonic going on in our house on the DS’s. I got pulled back into WoW by a friend lately, so that’s about all I play these days.
