Maze Blaze (Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, X/S, PC)
You are a futuristic soldier in a maze and you must find your way to the exit all the while shooting enemies and collecting helpful items. Maze Blaze is available on all current game consoles and PC, but reviewed on Switch here.
The mazes are viewed in an isometric perspective. You must reach the glowing green goal in each maze to move onto the next. Along the way you’ll come across items you can pick up with the A button. These include armor and guns with different bullet types, like ones that reflect off of walls. To shoot, just press the R2 button and aim with the L2 button. You can’t move while aiming, though. If you lose all your energy, the game is over. There are two modes: Adventure and Endless, and you can play both in single player or co-op.
I liked the TRON style neon graphics but that’s about it. Aiming controls are too cumbersome and your guy moves like he ate a big breakfast that morning. I think this one would’ve been more fun with twin stick shooter style controls.
Kid Factor:
Maze Blaze is rated E-10 with ESRB descriptors of Fantasy Violence and Mild Blood. I didn’t really notice any blood, but you do shoot robots and aliens that just fall over lifeless when defeated. Reading skill is helpful for the text, and younger gamers may have trouble with the controls and difficulty.
