Sport & Fun Swimming (Switch)
This is a motion controlled fitness game where you try and ‘swim’ a set distance each day by moving your arms while holding Switch JoyCons to mimic swimming strokes. It kind of reminds me of another simple fitness game released on the Switch a couple of years ago called Jump Rope Challenge.
When you start the game, you can choose which character you want to play as. There’s a boy, girl, cat, dog, koala, and the cutest hammerhead shark you ever saw. You can also change the swimming stroke at any time, which can change the direction you rotate your arms and whether you alternate or swing at the same time. Your goal is to swim a set number of yards each day. The default goal is a bit long for younger gamers, but at least you can stop at any time and start again the same day and it saves how long you swam so far. Two can swim at the same time, too.
When you swim a certain number of days or a certain distance, you can get a stamp for doing so. You get a stamp for swimming in all three locations (pool, beach, and lake). I thought by swimming for ten days you could unlock another character (which looks like a turtle), but I couldn’t figure out how to use it in the game so that was disappointing. There is a big goal to swim the same distance as you would the Atlantic Ocean, but you’d be playing this game for years before ever reaching that goal! Nothing wrong with the game overall but it’s a bit too simplistic to be considered worthwhile, I think.
Kid Factor:
Nothing violent or objectionable here. Reading skill is helpful for some of the menus, but not necessary just to play. I guess this game might be good for young kids who may be starting swimming lessons in the summer so they could practice swimming strokes and arm motions before then. Sport and Fun Swimming is rated E for Everyone.
