Catch Pokémon in McDonald’s Happy Meals!

Pokémon are back in McDonald’s Happy Meals, but this time it’s more of a focus on the card game.  I picked one up the other day so let’s see what’s inside.

Sometimes McDonald’s will have a display up at the restaurant showing what the new Happy Meal toys are.  This was one of those times, so here’s the display at the restaurant itself.

And here’s the box it came in.  It’s always nice to see they still use the same style of Happy Meal boxes after all these years.

One interesting thing is that even the apple slices came in a Pokémon themed package.  Although I do believe there is a Pokémon in the newer generations that is actually shaped and styled after an apple, so why didn’t they use that one instead?  Just seemed like a missed opportunity here.

All right now let’s finally check out the prizes!  Here’s the flat box they came in.

And here’s the back of the box.

One thing on the back of the box is a QR code you can use to play a little Pokémon themed mini-game on your phone.  You slide a PokeBall around a maze trying to get all the Pokémon.  But you have a limited number of slides to do it.  There are three areas with three levels each.  My only problem is that sometimes it wouldn’t slide in the direction I wanted, but you can’t be too hard on these kinds of games.  It really plays a lot like the Sonic Happy Meal game I wrote about a couple of weeks ago, except this one is 2D instead of 3D.  Here’s a screenshot from the game.

Inside the box is a double sided mini-poster.  Here is one of the sides.

The other side you are supposed to put stickers on to complete the picture.

And here’s the stickers that you do that with.

Finally, it comes with a pack of Pokémon cards.  Let’s open it up and see what we get!

Here are the cards I got.  The one on the top left is a shiny metallic holographic card, too!  Now, before you post comments asking how much I’d sell these cards for, just keep in mind that I no longer have them as they went straight to my nephew.

And that’s all for now!  I think I would’ve rather have had an actual Pokémon toy, but if you like the card game I guess this one isn’t so bad.  Later!  –Cary
