Scooby Doo and the Spooky Swamp

I’m playing Scooby Doo and the Spooky Swamp in co-op and can safely say the game is good (for 10 and under anyway) and plays an awful lot like Lego Star Wars. Lego Scooby Wars? Meaning, the gameplay for two usually involves special abilities (Scoob can fit inside of small passageways, Fred has super-strong Ascot powers, Velma likes playing that old Simon electronic toy, Daphne is there to look pretty (no, really! She can climb up special glowing purple poles — oh, get your mind out of the gutter!) and Shaggy does his thing. You know, the grappling hook? Shaggy with his trusty grapple? Did you even watch the show like ever man? Zoinks!

As a co-op game it’s a decent experience. Henry got most of the puzzles before me and sometimes was proven right about the next place to explore. The game uses a voodoo princess who is colored white but sounds black and you’d chalk that up to political correctness until you hear the Mexicans senor.

The gist is vintage Scooby. You’ve got a spooky swamp, a voodoo priestess who needs items scattered around the world, a crazy western style Sherriff, a crazy loner with his sad sack butler, a ghost or two and a talking Frog. The game is equal parts combat and simple puzzles and then it ends abruptly. I won’t tell you who would have gotten away with it if it hadn’t been for you meddlig kids! But I will voice this complaint.

Scooby kids? Is there an equally bad cartoon to go with this? Why can’t kids watch the crapfest cartoon of yesteryear? Is it because Hollywood really thinks kids can’t related to late teen stereotypes? I’m old, I don’t like it!

Single player just involves more character switching, 2-player is a lot more fun. Hear that dads of 6+year old kids! This is a good game for you-b-doobie dooo!

(I am so going to hell for that last joke…)

  1. How can a young preteen be called Shaggy when he isn’t old enough to have peachfuzz on his face? Is it because of his hairstyle?
