Monster Jam: Path of Destruction for Wii lets you drive your favorite real-life monster trucks in various stadium events. But is the game a real car crusher or a stick in the mud? Read on to find out:

Players can choose from over a dozen real-life monster trucks. Unlock more by leveling up and gaining points. Then compete against other monster trucks in stadiums. You’ll unlock more events as you level up, too. Some of these events require you to perform tricks, race other trucks, or cause massive amounts of destruction. You can do multiplayer in these events as well.

The main problem is the controls. Performing stunts is very tricky and undependable, and it’s too easy to flip over your ride. You can also get a version of this game that comes with a steering wheel controller with super-cool green flames and stickers. But I’ve never liked the steering wheel Wii controls since Mario Kart. Fans of monster trucks may still endure and enjoy this one, though.

Kid Factor:

Monster Jam: Path of Destruction is rated E for Everyone with an ESRB descriptor of Mild Violence. You crush cars and that’s pretty much it. Reading skill is helpful for the text instructions. Young monster truck fans may enjoy this, but might get frustrated with the controls.

If you have kids and can take them to a real life monster truck show, I’d highly recommend that instead. When I was about six years old, my dad took me to one for my birthday, and I still remember it to this day. I especially liked the demolition derby between three mac trucks with trailers! I fell asleep on the way home, but when I woke up in my bed, I saw the other part of my birthday present: Pac-Man bed sheets! So yeah, a monster truck show might be a fun thing to do with your kids, just don’t forget to bring earplugs! Those machines are really loud!
