Boxer the Unboxer ‘Unboxes’ the Nintendo 3DS!

Hi, I’m Boxer! I’m a sock puppet puppy, and I love ‘unboxing’ video games and consoles and seeing what all you get inside! Cary just got back from the store where he just bought a Nintendo 3DS, so we’re going to take a look at everything you get!

Okay, here’s what the box looks like from the outside. Can’t wait to see what’s in it!

The 3DS has a HUGE instruction manual, and lots of little manuals and quick start guides. There’s also a package full of cards that say “AR Games” on them. The cards have a question block, Mario, Kirby, Link, Pikmin, and Samus on them. But we don’t know what the cards do yet because we just opened the box!

Look at me! I’m a cyborg sock puppet puppy! Actually these are the chargers for the device. You set the 3DS in the charging cradle in my mouth (good thing I don’t slobber), and then plug it up with the cord on my head!

And here’s what the 3DS looks like. Ooooh, I’m all in 3-D! Actually, Cary hasn’t even turned on the 3DS yet. As soon as he got the plug and cradle out, he started charging it up. It’s always a good idea to do that, because stuff like this doesn’t come out of the box fully charged.

Mery moff fee mames mor muh fee ee ess: Mimotmings Mumorf, Mimimmogs min Maffs, mand Mooper Momey Mall Fee Eee Ess. Ptooie! Sorry, couldn’t talk very well there, I had three games in my mouth! Anyway, Cary got three games to play on 3DS. He got Nintendogs + Cats and Pilotwings Resort at Toys R Us because they’re having a buy one 3DS game, get the next half off special this week. And Super Monkey Ball 3DS is a review copy, so expect to see a review of it from Cary soon! Say, I wonder if I could be a Nintendog? Would you play with a sock puppet puppy?

Anyway, that’s what’s in the 3DS box (well, except for the games I had in my mouth). I’m surprised the box didn’t come with extra styluses, though. So that’s all from me for now. Here’s Cary with his take on the 3DS and what games he’s interested in.

Cary’s Take on the 3DS

Thanks, Boxer. Yeah, like Boxer said, I haven’t even PLAYED or even turned on my 3DS yet. I stuck it right in the charger so I can have a full charge when starting it up and playing it later this afternoon. I wrote this blog while waiting for it to charge up!

Honestly, I really can’t get too excited about the 3DS. Mainly because I’ve been blind in my left eye since birth, and I can’t see 3-D effects. I mostly got a 3DS so I can play and review games for it right away, plus there are some games coming out later that I’ll have to have regardless. Luckily you can turn the 3-D effects off in all games, so I’ll still be able to play them.

But even though I can’t see 3-D effects, that won’t stop me from reviewing games on the 3DS. I might have to have a friend or family member help me with describing how well the 3-D works, though. But I’m not going to let my disability keep me from doing what I want to do. I’m not a quitter and I’m loyal to the end, so I’ll keep on reviewing games as long as I am able to. Now, someday in the distant future when EVERYTHING is in 3-D, I might have to stop, and I’ll be one sad dude then. But until that time comes, I’m going to enjoy playing and reviewing games as much as possible, while I can, when I can.

But the real reason to buy any games system is for, well, the games of course! So here’s a list of games for the 3DS that I have my one eye on.

Nintendogs + Cats

This was one of the games I bought at Toys R Us with their ‘buy one 3DS game, get one half off’ deal they’ve got going on this week. I just have a strange fascination with virtual pet games, I don’t know why. I got the “Toy Poodle and Friends” version because one of the starter breeds was Pomeranian, and I wanted that breed so I could name it Missile like the dog from Phoenix Wright and Ghost Trick! Plus, the other breeds I wanted, Golden Retriever and Siberian Husky, were on other carts, so I’ll just have to unlock those. I can’t wait to see how the cats work, though. I wonder if you can get a Russian Blue breed? I used to have a Russian Blue cat, they’re very pretty and smart, too!

PilotWings Resort

This was the other game I got with the Toys R Us deal. Originally I wasn’t going to get it right away, as it just looks like an extension of the flight game from Wii Sports Resort. But I figured that I would get it with the deal since Nintendo published games usually don’t go down in price. I have special memories playing the SNES Pilotwings game because when I got it for Christmas, I took it to Alabama when visiting relatives and my dad and his brothers sat up and played it till three in the morning for three nights in a row! Never played the N64 version, though.

Super Monkey Ball 3DS

I got this game to review, so you can expect to see a write-up shortly. Lately, the Super Monkey Ball games haven’t been as good as the two original ones were on the GameCube, so hopefully this one will be better.

Ridge Racer 3DS

I’ll probably get this eventually, as I do like Ridge Racer games. Hopefully it’ll be better than the DS Ridge Racer, as that one sucked. Which is too bad since it was based on the N64 version, which was actually pretty good.

Bust-A-Move Universe

I’d rather they call it Puzzle Bobble in the US like they do everywhere else, but it is one of my favorite puzzle games. If I don’t get to review it, I’ll probably just wait until the price goes down before getting it, though.

Super Street Fighter 4

I probably won’t play this unless I get to review it. Only thing that interests me about this fighter gameplay-wise is they put some of the complicated moves as quick touch buttons on the touch screen. Which is good since I have trouble making them poop out fireballs and such. I imagine most people will be looking forward to seeing their favorite fighters in 3-D.

Games I Won’t Be Getting

Before we go on to future games I’m keeping tabs on, I thought I’d mention some games on 3DS I WON’T be getting. One is Dead or Alive Dimensions, because I’ve never been a fan of the DOA games. Plus, the only characters I like are Helena because she is an opera singer, and the ninja lady with purple hair. Actually I don’t like any of them because they acted mean to each other in the DOA Volleyball games. Which goes to show you that it doesn’t matter how ‘hot’ you are on the outside, if you act ugly to others, you’ll be ugly on the inside and out. I also probably won’t get the 3DS versions of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Star Fox 64, since the main draw of those is 3-D and I won’t be able to see it. And finally, I have no interest in Kid Icarus: Uprising. Never liked Kid Icarus. Sorry fans, but the NES game sucked.

Cartoon Network: Punch Time Explosion

OK, now back to some games I might get later on. Actually I probably won’t get this one, but I do like the fact that it’ll have characters from when Cartoon Network didn’t suck, like Samurai Jack, Dexter, etc. If it has characters from Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, I might be sold on it, though.

Pac-Man and Galaga Dimensions

But I’ll definitely get this one! Anything with Pac-Man you know I’ll buy, even if it’s crap. Luckily, I hear the Pac-Man game doesn’t rely on 3-D as much as the Galaga update does, which is good since I’m more interested in Pac-Man anyway.

Upcoming Mario Games

Even though not much is known about it, Super Mario 3DS looks like it’ll be a neat 3-D platformer. Same goes with Mario Kart 3DS. And I’m sure Paper Mario 3DS will be a fine entry in the RPG series.

Cooking Mama 4

Actually I didn’t know about this until the guy at GameStop showed me a flyer with upcoming games. I wonder how crazy Mama will look in 3-D?

DSiWare and VC

In a few months, I hear they’ll put Game Boy games on Virtual Console on the 3DS. I hear Zelda: Link’s Awakening will be one of them, and that’ll be an instant purchase for me since it’s my favorite Zelda game. I’d also like to see Wario Land 2 and 3, as well as the GB Donkey Kong game (the GB classic arcade update) on 3DS VC.

Animal Crossing 3DS

And this is the sole reason why I got a 3DS, really. I’m such an AC addict. I’ve played the others for nearly a full year each before stopping. And I’ll probably do the same with this one. My mom is an even bigger AC addict than I am, so when this one comes out, I’ll probably have to buy her a 3DS, too! But I don’t mind, she loves her DSi.

And that’s all I feel like talking about the 3DS right now. I’m going to go look and see if mine is all charged up now and then I’m going to play some games on it!

No Responses to “Boxer the Unboxer ‘Unboxes’ the Nintendo 3DS!”

  1. Dead Or Alive: Dimensions is the only good game coming out for the 3DS in the next 2-3 months.

  2. Oh, it wasn’t even a video! Nice! 😀 Thanks for sharing; I enjoyed the unboxing even if it wasn’t the green-blue variant system!
