Atari Stays Crunchy Even in Milk!

Looks like some General Mills cereals are going retro. The other day at the grocery store I noticed the Atari logo on a box of Cheerios. Since I like both video games AND cereal, it caught my eye. Nothing special, just some kiddy mazes and activities on the back of the box. But things have been slow on the video game front, and I thought this was at least somewhat interesting anyway. Click here for pics and info:

I think the activities are on the back of boxes of certain General Mills cereals like Cheerios, Honey Nut Cheerios, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cocoa Puffs, and Lucky Charms. Even the cereal looks retro, trying to resemble what the boxes looked like in the 80’s. On the corner of the front is this sign:

The side of the box shows the different cereals that have the Atari activities, and a few you might find. One had Centipede on the back, and another just had some generic retro sprites that resembled Space Invaders.

The box I brought home had Asteroids on the back, with a maze and quiz and such. I can’t imagine kids getting excited over games they might not have ever heard of, though.

Too bad there wasn’t an Atari themed prize in the box. Do kids’ cereals even have prizes in the boxes anymore? I usually just eat only the nutritious cereals anymore, so I don’t know. –Cary
