At last! Finally! The inevitable hardcore gamer message board topic comes to Ask GamerDad. So, what will the answer be. Are games art? Or aren’t they? Oh and a 13-year old wants me to recommend Metal Gear Solid 4.

The July 4th edition of Ask GamerDad has soared, dazzled and landed. Click here to ooh and ahhh. This week I, somewhat controversially, tackle a variety of patriotic subjects. Ranging from Sid Meier’s Civil War to Lt. Col. (Ret) David Grossman, to wargaming during wartime. Fun stuff! Grab a hotdog, swat the mosquitoes and enjoy the picnic.

I’m 12 and my mom thinks that I will become a lunatic if I play Mature-rated video games but I’m only asking for games with no drugs, sex, or alcohol and I’ve been begging for six years because I’m too old for kiddish games and I have every Teen game I’d like which is not very much. I used to play GTA3 when I was six and I was fine and I am very mature for my age. All this and a question about socks! more…

This article was originally intended for Father’s Day . . . but they got swamped over at WhatTheyPlay and I can’t complain, given that it was my Father’s Day feature that probably caused that. Here’s that special edition: A ONE question Ask GamerDad but don’t worry . . . it is probably the most important question a gamer dad, or mom, should think about.

There have been controversial video games ever since video games first were imagined. But a reader asks me if games from the long ago past (NES, Atari 2600) can possibly be rated M for Mature. And what about M-rated games from a decade, or more, ago? This and much more in this week’s Ask GamerDad.

Not to take anything away from the special Grand Theft Auto IV Edition of my column, but the newest edition has arrived and with it I move away from GTA and talk about game addiction, Portal, and just a little bit more!

Ask GamerDad this week is all about Myths, Misanthropes, and Animal Headed people. Here’s a sample:
“Liking this kind of game is dependent on believing in it. If you’re the type who looks for the wires, obsesses at how that magician did that trick, and simply won’t ignore the man behind the curtain. . . “

Woah! I forgot to link Ask GamerDad last friday? Oops! Here you go. Topics this week include: Multiplayer Co-Op PC Games for 9-year olds? Games for 72-year olds? And a reader politely takes me to task over my “on-the-fence” answer regarding Call of Duty 4 and teenagers.

Another week, another Ask GamerDad feature over at WhatTheyPlay.com. This week we have a perturbed reader angry about spoilers – recommendations for DS games for a 6-year old (guest starring Maggie Bub, aka GamerGirl) – and three from our own message board weigh in to help with some very obscure computer networking stuff (<- more interesting than it sounds). Free at last, they took your life but they could not take your pride – U2

Time again for another Ask GamerDad at WhatTheyPlay.com. This week has me talking – reluctantly – about someone named Jack Thompson, plus a look at why Call of Duty 4 is M and not Teen. This and more at Ask GamerDad.
