Sonic the Hedgehog Fruit Snacks

Hey everyone!  Guess what I found at the grocery store the other day?  Sonic the Hedgehog fruit snacks.  Now the speedy blue blur can grace your kids’ lunchboxes this school year!  I got a press release a few months ago saying that they were going to come out with Sonic fruit snacks plus a Sonic cereal.  So I guess the fruit snacks finally came out. I haven’t seen the cereal yet but if I do, you’ll know I’ll buy it and definitely write about it!  You’d think they would’ve had this kind of Sonic foodstuffs before now, but they haven’t.  So let’s take a quick look at the fruit snacks!

Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak amiibo

Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak is an expansion to Capcom’s popular Monster Hunter Rise game.  I hear it’s a pretty big addition, too.  So much so that it got three new amiibo figures!  I had to import these, as I never saw where I could get them in the US.  Actually I think Capcom USA had a special edition of the game that came with one of the amiibo figures (the dragon), but I wasn’t about to pay hundreds of dollars for that plus a game I’d never play.  But luckily, importing these wasn’t very costly at all!  I was surprised.  So let’s take a look at them!

LEGO Super Mario Starter Set

When I was a kid back in the early 80s, I loved going to arcades.  But I didn’t always have easy access to them or the games.  I might be able to see or play a game at a gas station or in front of a grocery store, but going to an actual arcade was a rare treat.  So sometimes when I was at home, I’d play ‘pretend’ arcade games.  One time I got a bunch of my dad’s dot matrix printer paper and spread it out from the front door to the back door.  On one side of the paper I drew a Xevious map, and on the other side I drew a Zaxxon map.  Then I got out my toy spaceships and played ‘pretend’ Xevious and Zaxxon with them.  Of course I got in a little bit of trouble for using so much of my dad’s printer paper!  Another time I cut out a paper chef’s hat and pepper shaker and played ‘pretend’ Burgertime around the house!  And I think that aspect of pretend play is the main inspiration for the LEGO Super Mario sets.  A couple of years ago, LEGO and Nintendo teamed up to make these, and there are tons of sets and expansions for them.  I got the LEGO Super Mario Starter Set for Christmas and finally got around to putting it together with my brother Jeff, so let’s take a look at it!

Cary’s Best Games of 2022 SO FAR Awards Show!

Around this time of year, I like to make a list of my best games SO FAR, because usually the AAA titles are released later in the year during the holiday season, and the titles that came out earlier tend to be forgotten.  So here’s when those games get their due.  Keep in mind that this is my list only and no other outside opinions contributed.  And if a game isn’t on this list, it either just didn’t appeal to me as much or I haven’t had a chance to play it yet.  Ok with that out of the way, let’s begin!

Welcome to the Pocky and Rocky Shrine!

You may not know about the Pocky and Rocky game series, but they’ve had four titles under their belt with a new one that just came out!  They’re 2-D shooters, but they don’t auto-scroll (think Ikari Warriors or Commando), but it’s the theme that makes them stand out.  The games have a Japanese myths and legends motif.  They’re really fun games, but also really hard!  Or maybe I just suck at them, I dunno.  Anyway, since the new game just came out, I thought I’d be your tour guide in this shrine featuring all the games in the series!  So let’s begin!

Min Min amiibo

I got another amiibo figure so I thought I’d show it off here.  This is one Min Min, a character from ARMS who was added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, hence the amiibo.  Usually when they do these Smash amiibo, they release them in groups.  But according to Nintendo, because of supply shortages or whatever, they only could release one this time, so we got Min Min!  So let’s take a look at her!

Reader Review: Dungeons and Dragons: Family Time or Bad News?

I’ve never been able to get into Dungeons and Dragons or any tabletop role playing game, really.  Too much math for my tastes.  That’s why I just stick to Final Fantasy games.  And even then just the old school ones.  But most of my other brothers really like Dungeons and Dragons.  For instance, my brother Jeff once ran a long running DnD group at his local library.  And another one of my brothers, Benjamin Woodham, wrote this neat article I’d like to share here.  So please read his article below. –Cary
