Goosebumps: The Game (3DS)
Paddington: Adventures in London (3DS)
I never really read any of the Paddington Bear books when I was a kid, which is where that character got his start. But when I was little, I do remember seeing lots of Paddington Bear stop-motion animated shorts on TV and on filmstrips at school (I’m really aging myself here). In fact, Paddington had a perchance for eating marmalade sandwiches, and when I was a kid I had never heard of marmalade. So when I saw it at the grocery store when I was little, I convinced my mom to buy some so I could try Paddington’s favorite treat. I learned something that day, marmalade is DISGUSTING! Why couldn’t he have liked pizza instead? Fast forward to earlier this year. A new Paddington Bear movie hit theaters, and I recently saw it on video. It really wasn’t that bad of a movie at all, a very charming family flick that stays true to the source material. And now you can play a game on the 3DS based on Paddington’s adventures.
Pixels Defense (iPad)
The movie Pixels is about classic 80’s video game characters attacking Earth, and now there is a game based on the film (available on Android and iOS, but reviewed on iPad here). You’d think that a game that has Pac-Man, Centipede, Frogger, and Q*bert in it would be monumental, but it’s just yet another tired Tower Defense clone. So it’s not very eventful at all. Kind of like the movie.
Cary’s Summer Movie Checklist 2015
Well another summer is almost over, and I watched a lot of summer movies in theaters this year. So I thought I’d write a blog with brief impressions on them! Keep in mind that there MIGHT be some slight spoilers here and there, but I’ll try to keep them to a minimum. So grab your popcorn and see what I watched this summer!
Ant-Man Pinball (360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, Vita, Wii U, PC, iOS)
Hot off the heels of Marvel’s newest film comes Ant-Man Pinball from Zen Studios. Help Scott Lang shrink down with his special ant suit to battle bad guys and save the day…on a pinball table! Ant-Man Pinball is available for consoles and devices that support Zen Pinball 2 and Pinball FX2 platforms. (Reviewed on 360 here)
Inside Out: Thought Bubbles (iPad)
So a few weeks ago I went to go see Inside Out, Pixar’s newest movie. It’s about a girl and her personified emotions, and it’s a very touching, thought-provoking film. During the previews, they had a commercial for a downloadable Inside Out free-to-play game on iOS and Google Play. In the movie, the girl’s memories are represented by colored bubbles, so I guess someone got the idea to make a puzzle game out of it similar to Puzzle Bobble/Bust-A-Move, or another game I reviewed recently called Bubble Bath Blast. And since I liked the movie and Puzzle Bobble is one of my favorite puzzle games, I decided to review this game, too (reviewed on iPad here).
LEGO Jurassic World (Wii U, 3DS, PS3, PS4, PS Vita, 360, Xbox One, PC)
Jurassic Park is one of the most famous dinosaur films around, and the newest entry in the series is one of this summer’s big movie hits. And now you can enjoy all four movies in LEGO form with LEGO Jurassic World. Play as all the characters from the flicks as you explore the original Jurassic Park and re-enact all the famous scenes, and visit the new Jurassic World them park as well! Drive vehicles and even play as the dinosaurs themselves in the newest in the LEGO game franchise. It’s available for all current game consoles, but reviewed on Wii U here.
Star Wars Rebels Pinball (360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, Vita, Wii U, PC, iOS)
The kids’ cable channel Disney XD has a new computer animated Star Wars cartoon called Star Wars Rebels. I’ve never seen the cartoon myself, as the only thing I watch on Disney XD is Gravity Falls. But I do sure see a lot of commercials for it! And now you can play a pinball table based on the franchise and it’s downloadable on Zen Studios’ Pinball FX2 and Zen Pinball 2’s platforms (reviewed on 360 here).
Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron Pinball (360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, Vita, Wii U, PC, iOS)
Tony Stark has just created a super powerful robot computer named Ultron, but it goes haywire and turns evil so now it’s up to Iron Man and the rest of the Avengers to stop him! That’s the plot of the new hit summer movie Avengers: Age of Ultron and it’s also the same as Zen Studios new pinball table for its Pinball FX2 and Zen Pinball platforms (reviewed on 360 here).
Maya the Bee: Flying Challenge (iPad)
Maya the Bee was originally a German children’s book from the early 1900’s. But most people probably remember it as a Japanese anime cartoon from the 1970’s, which was shown on Nick Jr. in the US in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Yeah, back in those days, Nick Jr. showed a lot of children’s anime. And now there is a new computer animated Maya the Bee cartoon and movie. Not sure if the new cartoon is being shown in the US, but I think the movie is coming to video later on. Now you can help young Maya collect honey and rare flowers for her teacher Mrs. Cassandra in Maya the Bee: Flying Challenge. It’s a 3-D continuous runner (flyer?) downloadable for iOS and Android devices (reviewed on iPad here).
