Pokémon Playhouse (iOS, Android)

Kids love Pokémon.  And they have for more than two decades now.  But surprisingly, with all the kid-focused Pokémon games out there now, there is very little for the younger crowd.  Sure there have been a few games like Pokémon Channel on GameCube and the PokePark games on Wii.  But not really much for the preschool set.  Until now.  Introducing Pokémon Playhouse, a game designed for the smallest of Pokémon fans.  It’s available to download on iOS and Android devices (reviewed on iPad here).  Best of all, it’s a free to play game with NO in game purchases or ads!

LEGO Dimensions Beetlejuice Fun Pack

Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice!  I remember watching this movie a couple of times when I was a kid, but I haven’t seen it since then. It was pretty popular, though.  So much so that they had a Beetlejuice Saturday morning cartoon when I was a kid as well.  It wasn’t my favorite, but I do remember it being of higher quality than most of the other Saturday morning cartons at the time.  Plus I think I read it won an Emmy.  Now the Ghost with the Most is haunting LEGO Dimensions with the Beetlejuice Fun Pack.  It’s available to play on nearly all current game consoles, but reviewed on Wii U here.

LEGO Dimensions The Powerpuff Girls Team Pack & Fun Pack

Sugar, Spice, and Everything Nice.  These were the ingredients chosen to make the perfect little girls.  But Professor Utonium accidentally added an extra ingredient…Chemical X.  Plus a few LEGOs for good measure.  Thus The Powerpuff Girls Team Pack and Fun Pack for LEGO Dimensions was born!  The Powerpuff Girls was one of Cartoon Network’s most successful and well-known shows.  So much so that it got a remake last year (although it isn’t as good as the original).  Now you can relive the adventures of Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup with add-ons for LEGO Dimensions, available for nearly all current game consoles but reviewed on Wii U here.

Summer Movie 2017 Checklist

It’s that time of year again.  All the summer movies are out, and there are usually a few that interest me.  So here’s a list of the movies I’ve seen this summer, as well as the ones I wanted to see, but didn’t for whatever reason.  Oh and there might be some slight spoilers here and there, so you’ve been warned.

Pokémon: Magikarp Jump! (iOS, Android)

Because of the popularity of Pokémon GO, the Pokémon Company is really embracing the mobile market.  Now there is a separate game starring everyone’s favorite Pokémon character.  No, it’s not Pikachu or Meowth.  Not Snorlax or Mewtwo.  Oh wait, did I say favorite?  What I meant was this game stars the most useless Pokémon of all: the flopping fish Magikarp!  Yup, he has his own game in Magikarp Jump!, a free-to-play downloadable title on mobile devices (but reviewed on iPad here).  You’re just going to have to check this one out to believe it!

LEGO Dimensions Harry Potter Fun Pack

Please don’t kill me, but I’m just not a big Harry Potter fan.  I read through the fourth book and got tired of it after that, same thing with the movies.  But just because I’m not a fan, it doesn’t mean I HATE Harry Potter.  I think the books are great for kids and the Harry Potter area at Universal Studios is AMAZING!  I wish they could make a set for LEGO Dimensions based on Chronicles of Narnia, now that was a book series I was really into as a kid.  But if you’re a fan of Harry Potter, there is a new Fun Pack out for LEGO Dimensions that you’ll think is pretty magical.  LEGO Dimensions is available for nearly all current game consoles, but reviewed on Wii U here.

LEGO Dimensions The Goonies Level Pack

The Goonies was a very popular movie when I was a kid, but for some reason, I never saw it in theaters.  It didn’t hold my attention the way other movies like Ghostbusters, Gremlins, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Back to the Future did.  I know when it was on videotape, my friend’s cousin would always visit him in the summer and she’d always bring that movie with her and make us watch it every time she was around, so I got sick of it and avoided watching it again for a long time.  Luckily I was able to catch it on TV a few weeks ago so it would be fresh on my mind and I could be prepared to write this review!  The Goonies are also no strangers to video games, as there were two games that came out on the NES.  The first was only available in Japan but you could play it on PlayChoice arcade machines in the US.  The sequel was one of the earliest examples of a “Metroidvania” type of game and you played as Mikey and used a yo-yo as a weapon as you tried to stop the Fratelli gang again as they kidnapped your friends and Annie the mermaid.  Yeah it was a little weird.  But now, many years later, you can enjoy the Goonies in a video game again in LEGO form with the LEGO Dimensions The Goonies Level Pack.  It’s available for nearly all current game consoles, but reviewed on Wii U here.
