Formula Cartoon All-Stars (iPad)

CARTOON_BOXRace as and against your favorite Cartoon Network characters in this top-down viewed kart game, downloadable on iOS and Android devices (reviewed on iPad here).  Actually they look more like four-wheelers than karts, but whatever.  You’ll play as characters from Cartoon Network’s large history of characters and shows, like Clarence, Steven Universe, Johnny Bravo, PowerPuff Girls, Flapjack, Adventure Time, Gumball, Regular Show, Uncle Grandpa, Ben 10, Dexter’s Laboratory, and even some I don’t recognize!  I’m a little disappointed that Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends and Samurai Jack weren’t represented, but that’s still a lot of characters!

Star Wars Rebels Pinball (360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, Vita, Wii U, PC, iOS)

STARWARS_BOXThe kids’ cable channel Disney XD has a new computer animated Star Wars cartoon called Star Wars Rebels.  I’ve never seen the cartoon myself, as the only thing I watch on Disney XD is Gravity Falls.  But I do sure see a lot of commercials for it!  And now you can play a pinball table based on the franchise and it’s downloadable on Zen Studios’ Pinball FX2 and Zen Pinball 2’s platforms (reviewed on 360 here).

Maya the Bee: Flying Challenge (iPad)

MAYA_BOXMaya the Bee was originally a German children’s book from the early 1900’s.  But most people probably remember it as a Japanese anime cartoon from the 1970’s, which was shown on Nick Jr. in the US in the late 80’s and early 90’s.  Yeah, back in those days, Nick Jr. showed a lot of children’s anime.  And now there is a new computer animated Maya the Bee cartoon and movie.  Not sure if the new cartoon is being shown in the US, but I think the movie is coming to video later on.  Now you can help young Maya collect honey and rare flowers for her teacher Mrs. Cassandra in Maya the Bee: Flying Challenge.  It’s a 3-D continuous runner (flyer?) downloadable for iOS and Android devices (reviewed on iPad here).

Adventure Time: Game Wizard (iPad)

WIZARD_BOXCartoon Network’s Adventure Time is one of their most successful series, and they’ve made tons of video games based on the property (believe me; I’ve reviewed a lot of them).  Their newest title, Game Wizard, is one of the most creative I’ve played yet!  One day, Finn and Jake are walking through the forest when they come across a magic book and pencil surrounded by all sorts of strange runes.  When they use the pencil to draw themselves in the book, their sketches come to life and they go on an adventure to stop the Doodle Wizard.  And now you can draw your own adventures, too, as the game lets you draw levels using graph paper and scan them into your tablet!  Adventure Time: Game Wizard is available for iOS, Google Play, and Amazon, but reviewed on iPad here.

Cary’s 2015 Super Bowl Commercial Round Up

SUPERBOWLIt’s kind of a tradition for me every year to write a blog roundup of my favorite Super Bowl commercials.  I think it’s interesting how us folks here in the US treat the Super Bowl like a national holiday or something.  Nothing wrong with that, I just think it’s interesting.  I have to say, though, that while most years the commercials are disappointing, this year they were especially disappointing.  A lot of the commercials were all serious and depressing.  Where’s the funny?  Normally as I watch the game, I take notes on the commercials that stood out to me.  This year I didn’t even fill up one page!  But I’m still going to write a blog about it anyway.

Adventure Time: The Secret of the Nameless Kingdom (PS3, 360, 3DS)

ADVENTURE_BOXAdventure Time is one of Cartoon Network’s most popular shows, and I’ve reviewed many games based on the franchise, both on tablets and consoles.  Their newest console adventure was recently released, and in the game, Princess Bubblegum has sent Finn and his stretchy magical dog pal Jake to the Nameless Kingdom to investigate some trouble.  The three princesses of the Nameless Kingdom have gone missing, presumably trapped in maze-like dungeons, and so it’s up to Finn and Jake to set out and rescue them.  Adventure Time: The Secret of the Nameless Kingdom is a top-down viewed action adventure game very similar to classic Zelda titles, and it is available on PS3, Xbox 360, and 3DS (reviewed on PS3 here).

The Penguins of Madagascar (3DS, Wii U, Wii)

PENGUINS_BOXI love the penguins in the Madagascar movies.  In fact, they’re the only reasons why I watched all three films.  Apparently, I’m not the only one who likes those penguins, because a few years ago they were in a cartoon series on Nickelodeon, and now they have their own feature length movie in theaters.  And now you can join in the adventures of Skipper, Kowalski, Rico, and Private as they embark on a mission for their favorite Cheesy Dibbles snacks, and rescue other penguins in the process.  The Penguins of Madagascar video game is based on the new movie, and is available for all current Nintendo consoles, but reviewed on 3DS here.
