Game Review: Ys Seven (PSP)
Pronounced like ‘ease,’ the Ys series has provided gamers with fast action adventures and quests since 1987, even though it’s not as well received or recognized like Zelda titles are. In Ys Seven, join fiery red-haired Adol and his pal Dogi as they venture to a new land: Altego. Upon arriving, the two adventurers discover the area is being plagued by calamites and giant monsters. It’s up to Adol to harness the power of five legendary dragons to save this magical country.
My Most Memorable Metroid Moments
Back when Super Mario Galaxy 2 was about to be released earlier this year, I wrote a blog in anticipation of it, sharing my most memorable and favorite Mario moments and games. With Metroid: Other M being released at the end of this month, I figured I would do something similar. So here’s a blog sharing my most memorable Metroid moments and games.
The End of EA Sports
It is with great dismay and sorrow that I must report the end of GamerDad’s relationship with EA Sports. This is sad to me personally, because I have reviewed Madden and other EA Sports games since 1996.
Starcraft II
Blizzard always makes an impact. It began when Warcraft: Orcs vs. Humans and then Starcraft defined real-time strategy forever. Diable became the top action RPG and you’ve probably heard of World of Warcraft. Warcraft 3, many years ago, basically just updated the traditional gameplay and added better graphics. That’s exactly what Starcraft II does. Updates the formula without changing it.
Toy Story 3
My love for Pixar is deep and abiding. They provide the best entertainment for my kids each year and all through the years and I admire just about everything about the company. Movie tie-ins tend to borrow adequate gameplay and then shoehorn it into the narrative and the results are typically mediocre. That’s not what happened with Toy Story 3, the game.
GenCon 2010 – The RPG Report
The annual GenCon gaming convention was held earlier this month in Indianapolis. As is my tradition, I attended for a couple days and thought I’d share my thoughts. The convention has its roots in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Gary Gygax held the first one in 1968 as a wargame convention. It quickly grew as Gygax’s Dungeons & Dragons role playing game became popular. GenCon attendance now approaches 30,000 attendees and will be the 4th largest convention in Indianapolis this year, behind both the NCAA tournament and the national FFA convention. While gaming conventions are common, Gencon is the place to be for fans of role playing games. Many companies use the convention to launch new titles and reveal upcoming plans and the only problem anyone interested in trying out a game will have is choosing from the large number of public games available.

Singularity
Prime Pixel Picks!
So last weekend I was over at a friend’s house and we were playing an Xbox LIVE indie game called Protect Me Knight. It’s a new game, but visually and musically appears like a NES 8-bit title! We played it nearly the whole time I was there, and it got me to thinking about other new games done in 8-bit style. So I figured I would write a blog about other notable 8-bit styled new games. Now, these aren’t remakes of old games or anything, so keep that in mind.
