GamerDad Keynote & the ALA

GamerDad (me) will be delivering a keynote address at the 2nd Annual “Gaming, Learning, and Libraries Symposium” in Chicago, run by the American Library Association. I’ll be speaking on November 4th (remember to vote) at 9am and will talk for about an hour or so about videogames and this whole Gamerparenting thing I do. Joining me (at their own speaking times) are Dr. Lawrence Kutner (co-author of “Grand Theft Childhood” and Marc Prensky (author of “Don’t Bother Me Mom … I’m Learning!”).

I’d like to thank the ALA for this wonderful opportunity and am happy to help librarians guide parents to the best videogames on the market. What kinds of games does GamerDad recommend? The most educational, sometimes. The most fun? Always. Here’s their blurb and here’s a link to the website.

ALA TechSource, in collaboration with the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL), the Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), and the Library and Information Technology Association (LITA), announces the second annual Gaming, Learning, and Libraries Symposium to be held in the Chicago area on November 2-4, 2008.

  1. There’s a moderately significant movement going on in Librarian circles to include more boardgames in their programs. Glad to see its also going on with video games…

  2. Good luck GamerDad!

If you are coming down on Monday night, I’ll buy you a drink at the hotel.
